Hm, sounds like some fifteen years, or so, back. There were indeed
times when configuring sendmail required messing directly with
sendmail.cf and that borders on a "black magic". :-) Only you do
not have to do that longer that I care to remember.
Yes, black magic it was, but for 10 years or so its had sendmail.m4 to
allow you to configure it relatively simply (simply being a relative
term to what it was prviously) with macros but its still has issues. I
would think postfix is a reasonable medium, its relatively modern and
lightweight (exim needs perl) and if someone particularly wants
sendmail I think they would also be able to work out how to do a 'yum
install sendmail'. If they know how to configure a particular mta they
can certainly work out how to use yum to or packagekit to install it.
