HEADS UP
cockpit-311-1.fc40 landed yesterday, but anaconda-webui-6-1.fc40
landed only today, which means the F40 Workstation image
(Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-40-20240216.n.0.iso) is quite broken
for anaconda webui. No need to spend time on testing it and reporting
bugs (as I just did... sigh).
Of course please test all the other images and bits. It's just the
Workstation installer which is known to be broken in this compose.
Thanks.

Fedora 39 to 40 upgrade experience
by Ian Laurie
Yes I know we're just a day from the branch... but I upgraded an Xfce
workstation/Intranet server today to see how things would go. A few
observations:
(1) The upgrade required the --allowerasing option which uninstalled
intel-media-driver from RPM Fusion due to a conflict with a related
Fedora package.
(2) Password needed to be updated as per what happened with Rawhide a
few weeks ago ~ login warning about my password expiring (it was set to
never expire). I'm guessing a file format changed somewhere? Would be
good if the upgrade could migrate the file rather than complaining the
password is about to expire.
(3) Weston got installed without my permission as per what happened on
my virtual Rawhide instances a few weeks ago. On Rawhide I just got rid
of it without any known negative implications and will do the same for
Fedora 40... but I am assuming this install was not intended? It will
need fixing before the public beta or there will be much screaming.
Outside of that the system is working, web server and samba, and XRDP,
all working as they should.

gnome-session-46-alpha-1 has broken Budgie sessions
by Ian Laurie
I rolled back to a working backup of Rawhide Budgie and selectively
upgraded until I could no longer log into a Budgie session, and it's the
upgrade to gnome-session-46-alpha-1 that did it. Previous 45.0-6 works.
Further, downgrading gnome-session to 45.0-6 on an already broken system
has restored it to a working condition.

Budgie on Rawhide ~ can't login, bounces back to greeter
by Ian Laurie
Anyone running Budgie DE on Rawhide?
With the latest updates installed, I cannot login, slick-greeter bounces
me back to the greeter. Anyone else seeing this?

xdriinfo disappeared
by Felix Miata
I just did a system-upgrade from 39 to Rawhide. In the process, /usr/bin/xdriinfo
disappeared. dnf finds no package named xdriinfo.

Where from standard repos can I get the xdriinfo utility? Must I copy the binary
from F39 to F40? (It does work.) Is there something else to perform the same task
in Rawhide?

Fwd: Rawhide Beta Everything.iso and other ISOs -- btrfs -- serious issue

Subject: Rawhide Beta Everything.iso and other ISOs -- btrfs -- serious issue

I am not registered as an official test person. But I have been using
Fedora for the past 20 years.
I have been doing some tests with KDE,Gnome, xfce (all Fedora Rawhide distros).
With the Everything.iso, here is an example of a problem
I have a previous kde/gnome/kde installation that has pre-existing
btrfs / (eg root).
The installation scripts have a checkmark indicated for reformat and I
choose that for / which is, an existing btrfs that I wish to
overwrite.
There is no checkmark or option for delete/recreate of a btrfs partition.
With the installation scripts I tested, the new anaconda balks and
will not allow reformat of any previously used existing btrfs
formatted partition.
With the Everything.iso, there is no way to excape to root, in order
to perform a delete.
This shortcoming in the anaconda script means that I must exit the
installation, use my existing Fedora 39 to delete the btrfs partition,
and then try again.
By the way, Fedora 39 Everything.iso has the delete partition (btrfs ) option
Do you want me to use bugzilla to post the above? Better still if you
format this email to the developer of the new anaconda interface.
Leslie Satenstein
PS. Existing (Fedora 39 and earlier ) anaconda works perfectly.

[Fedora Test Days] KDE Plasma 6 Test Week
by Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks,
As many of you may know, FOSDEM is going on but still, we are hosting
the KDE test weeks.
You can still submit the results here[0]. KDE is very important for
our community members
and testing this way ahead of time helps us find bugs and eliminate them!!
Thanks for testing!
