yum requires a lot of time but not a lot of processor

also i've noted that resolving dependencies while yum update/install
<somepackage> eats most of the time, especially with only one package as
target

Bug Zapper Opportunity 2008-05-02
by John Poelstra
Bug Zappers!
As promised at this week's triage meeting... here is simple, focused
task you can help with.
Right now there are approximately 111 bugs in NEEDINFO as a result of
the recent automated bugzilla maintenance requests.
http://preview.tinyurl.com/4qy854
The bugs located by the query above have all had some sort of action
since they were placed in NEEDINFO, but for some reason the state was
not changed out of NEEDINFO.
You can help by reviewing each of these bugs and after review the
comments take appropriate action. Appropriate actions *might* include:
o closing the bug
o changing the state to ASSIGNED
o updating the version number
o asking a clarifying question to help work the bug towards resolution.
If the bug is open against a version that is EOL (FC1 to FC6) and it
appears work is continuing on maintained version (as described in the
comments), it is important to change the version to the maintained
version so it does not get auto-closed during the next automated
maintenance processes.
Another common case is that the bug has a version of 'rawhide' and the
comment says 'this problem still exists in rawhide', but the bug remains
in NEEDINFO. In this case the bug should be changed to ASSIGNED (if
there are no other complicating factors).
If you come across a bug where you're not sure what to do, ask for help
on #fedora-qa or reply to this mail with the bug number.
Thanks for your help!

gvfs mount
by Christopher L Tubbs II
Can anybody tell me what this gvfs-fuse-daemon is doing mounted to a
dotfile in my home directory? (.gvfs). It's new to F9 apparently (I
never noticed it in F8, and it definitely wasn't there in F7).
Why do I need it and can I get rid of it?

Today's (20080502) rawhide report didn't list changes
by Bruno Wolff III
Today's rawhide report only contained a few broken dependencies. However
some packages did change since yesterday.
Notably the kernel update includes a security fix, though I suspect a
low threat one, since it wasn't pushed to rawhide immediately after
the fix was made.
I believe this also happened one other day this week.

preupdate won't update
by shmuel siegel
From a fully updated fc8 on a dell latitude d620 I tried to run
preupdate to rawhide
first try ran out of room in boot while downloading stage2 so I deleted
a kernel version
second try finished
when I rebooted and tried to perform the update, I got an error message
saying that the installer couldn't find groups in the repository
