Installing F10 (from F9) on a system with encrypted partitions?
by mike cloaked
I have a laptop which has encrypted root "/" partition containing F9, a /opt
partition also encrypted, and this has a /home sub-directory within it, and
an unencrypted /boot partition.
If I do a clean in stall of F10 from the DVD iso once it is released, are there
any known problems likely to arise and should I be able to do a straightforward
install but yet retain access to the encrypted /opt partition?
In addition is it possible during the install to get the system to use the same
passphrase for the luks encryption for the / as well as the pre-existing /opt
partitions, and at the same time get the boot process to only ask for this
passphrase once?
Also the swap partition is encrypted - presumably the same encryption is possible
with the pre-existing swap partition during install?
The system that is currently on the machine was an original clean F9 install.

can't install base system using CD 1
by Mikel Ward
Hi
I just tried to install the Fedora 10 i386 preview using only the first CD.
Even after going to "customize packages now" and deselecting all
non-essential packages, including Office and Productivity on the first
screen, and then all the boxes not under Base System on the second
screen (e.g. GNOME Desktop, Graphical Internet, Editors, Graphics,
etc, etc.), it still told me I needed CD 1 and CD 2, and I could not
go back.
This left me with a re-formatted root partition and no bootable OS.
Please take steps to ensure at least the base operating system
packages are all available on CD 1.
Thanks
Mike

Re: problem seeing updates-testing for f10

I remember a message some days ago (that I don't find anymore, not
sure if it was on this list or other post) saying that if we,
fedora-testing users, wanted to give test for the post -release
updates, we could enable updates-testing in rawhide....
So I went for it... specifically to test eventual improvements of kde
4.1.3 over 4.1.2...
But probably I misleaded the message

Connecting to Vista share using rawhide release candidate (fc10)
by Clyde E. Kunkel
If from gnome I try to connect to Places/connect to server/Windows Share
and enter the name of the vista computer, I get and error box saying
Cannot disply location "smb://myvistacomputer/" No application is
registered as handing this file. Yet, if I use the ip address of the
vista computer I get access to the shares on the vista machine.
What am I doing wrong, or what do I need to do right? The vista machine
s ip address is not static and changes as computers on the network are
rebooted, etc.
Thanks.

F9 ISO DVD Installation
by Leslie S Satenstein
I had to reinstall F9 and when I tried to run yum -y update, the message returned was about missing repositories for F9.
Should there not be at least a single file that updates the yum repository information to point to the new locations?

Multiport Ethernet Setup Profoundly Comfused
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
With a single Ethernet port, disabling network manager and
enabling network apparently allows a simple static IP to be set.
With two ports, the result is utter confusion. Eth0 talks to
the cloud address 70.89.176.169 mask 255.255.255.252
Gateway is 70.89.176.170
Eth1 talks to the local subnet as 192.168.1.13
Turns out the other parameters ends up as modifications of
the accredd key. I had to turn off all network autocongs
and set the parameters manually.
