(F10) X hangs
by David Mack
When I run startx on a fully patched F10 on a Dell Optiplex GX260
(Intel graphics), X hangs in an uninterruptible sleep with this
message in the log:

Any suggestions?

BFO Report: Adobe Reader Plugin on F10 x64
by Christopher A Williams
In all of the excitement about the 64-bit Alpha of the Flash Plugin, I
just noticed that you still need both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of
nspluginwrapper installed on your F10 x64 system if you want Adobe
Reader plugin to work in 64-bit Firefox.
This should probably get added to the release notes - I didn't see it in
there at all.
Cheers,
Chris

No mouse cursor in {flux|open}box until an application is opened
by Scott Robbins
A recent fresh install of F10 from DVD seemed normal enough. Gnome and
KDE boot normally, everything is fine.
However, I prefer fluxbox. I installed it afterwards, but when I type
startx, there is no mouse cursor. This is on an Acer Aspire 4720z,
which uses the synaptics driver. The older Fedora versions have that
entry in xorg.conf on this machine. The later Rawhide test installs
don't have an xorg.conf, of course, but it worked fine with them as
well.
If I right click on the desktop, a context menu opens, which is normal
behavior. However, still no cursor. I can navigate the menu with the
invisible cursor.
Now, when I open an application, xterm, firefox or whatever, if I drag
the mouse back and forth into the application once or twice and left
click, a cursor appears.
That's in fluxbox.
In openbox, the same behavior occurs with an xterm. However, if I open
a gtk app, such as firefox or gnome-terminal (again, I can open them by
left clicking the as yet invisible mouse) the cursor just appears,
usually with that little blue moving circle that one sees when first
logging into a Gnome desktop.
Putting a working rawhide install's xorg.conf in there didn't help.
Dmesg and Xorg logs show the same thing as a working installation's
logs, seeing a synaptics mouse on boot and upon starting xorg, Mac mouse
emulation.
Other things I've tried, after googling and seeing various mouse
problems--(though none were desktop specific, in those cases, the poster
seemed to not have a mouse at all) were removing rhgb quiet from the
grub line (apparently helps with some nvidia cards), adding HWCursor off
to xorg.conf, installing config-system-display and using it. None of
these help.
It's more an amusing inconvenience than disaster, since, A) the cursor
does appear after anything is opened, and B) the whole reason I prefer
the *box WM's is because they enable to do almost everything without the
mouse.
I was able to duplicate this on two test installs, but I've only tried
on this one machine, an Acer 4720z, which has frequently given me Just
Me(TM) problems.
Using gpm also works without problem, so the system is seeing the mouse,
Gnome and KDE see the mouse, it's just that the *box WM's seem to not
notice there's a mouse till an application opens.
Has anyone run into something like this? I'm not sure what Gnome and
KDE are doing that fluxbox isn't in this case.
Thanks for any input.
I also tried, on the second test install, upgrading the existing F10
releaes to today's rawhide, but there was no change.

Selinux .vs. Apache
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
When I install a new version of Fedora I leave Selinux on until
it prevents me from doing something important.
This time Selinux caused Apache to fail reading its configuration
file where I specified the document root. Once again, as always,
off with Selinux.
I don't know if Linux really needs Selinux. If it does, it
needs something that doesn't get in the way of normal
system functions.

Wired Network Problems Rawhide
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
Here it is on Rawhide. I did not enter 70... as netmask!
The generated scripts on fc9 are similar except the
netmask values are the ones I entered, not something
pulled out of the ozone layer.
When I get a chance I will edit the files manually and see
what happens.

by Roger Grosswiler
I have a mailaccount, which i only can access via webmail.
Now i would like to have my normal mailclient (claws, evolution...) picking them, so i
can read my mails with usual mailclient.
Is there any possibility/client/plugin available for this?
i dont want it to get forwarded to another account.

Fedora 10 Desktop Dell Latitude D830 - Screen Res utility
by Damian Brasher
Hi
I have an issue with the Screen Resolution utility after running the
Live CD on a Dell Latitude D830 Centrino 19". I installed the updates.
With the VGA extension plugged in to a Samsung SyncMaster 710v monitor I
am trying to extend the desktop rather than clone/mirror it. I can check
the 'mirror screens' option and the desktop is mirrored to Samsung
however when I uncheck this option, choose apply, then close and reopen
the utility the option is still checked. De-selecting mirror screens
does not act as I assume it should and the initial screen resolution of
the laptop is not restored. When I manually change the resolution back
to 1680x1050 60Hz the task bars do not resize to fit the new screen res.
properly, there is a gap top and bottom to the right where the bars end
prematurely.
When I unplug the Samsung monitor the Mirror Screens option is unchecked.
In the top left hand corner of the screen there are still two colored
boxes one overlapping the other, I can't see the second clearly. The
first indicator box says, 'laptop 15"' and I can just see the edge of a,
'7"'. I assume these should not overlap. When trying to return to Laptop
only display a second time the Samsung monitor is not detected/displayed
in the Screen resolution utility display window.
The display controller is Intel GM965/GL960 rev 0c.
