FC5t1 under VMware
by EB
>>
I have had multiple failures (>4) testing installing/upgrading FC5t2 in
VMware Workstation on two different hosts. Zero successes. Haven't tried
on real hardware yet.
>>
What doesn't it do when it doesn't work?
I have VMware 4.5.2 build 8848. When setting up FC5t1 I had to create the
virtual machine with SCSI disks as opposed to the default IDE. That was
the only change from FC4t2 that I am using normally.

system-config-proxy and how well gnome works with proxy config...
by Rudolf Kastl
Hello to you fellow testers and developers!
Since i use fedora at work (atm fc4) i am always behind proxys (i am
working at different companys all the time)...
System-config-proxy is supposed as a global config tool for
configuring proxy settings... but how well are those proxy settings
working for gnome applications...
simple example... while the weather applet works (which shows that my
http proxy is setupped correctly) simply opening gnome-terminal and
running yum update requires me to export the proxy settings for http
again...
generally i think it would help alot to make as many as possible
applications "proxy ready" by making em work with system-config-proxy
to make the stuff work properly in company environments.
Since i am not at home with my rawhide test box often enough i am
looking for help to get as much tested as possible and reported
upstream.
I sense pretty low hanging fruits there.
regards,
Rudolf Kastl

GRUB not written to MBR - rewrite problem
by Claude Jones
On installation, GRUB was supposed to be written to the MBR, but it didn't
happen. FC5t2 is installed on an external USB drive, connected to my HP
Pavilion Laptop. I've run several Linux distros this way, so I know it can
work. I booted into rescue (I also tried "linux expert rescue"), but after I
"chroot /mnt/sysimage" and type "grub-install /dev/hda" I get the following:
"/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 does not have any corresponding BIOS drive"
Can anyone suggest something? I get the same message if I try to write GRUB
to /dev/sda by the way...

Ekiga being pushed to Rawhide
by Daniel Veillard
Hi lovers of internet telephony,
I just pushed Ekiga to rawhide, this is the beta version of the replacement
of GnomeMeeting, the main change in spite of the rename is that it adds SIP
support, it also drops the dependancy on openh323 and use the new opal library
instead.
The documentation has not yet been updated, I suggest you check
http://ekiga.org/
for simple steps and the FAQ, also use the upstream gnome bugzilla to report
non-packaging bugs,
thanks for trying it out so we get a good SIP telephony solution in FC5 !
