Re: /usr has vanished
by gslink
There is no Bugzilla entry for what I reported. I do not normally
report most problems to Bugzilla until the release gets more stable.
Usually by the time that the entry is acted on the test release is
obsolete and the entry just becomes clutter. If this problem remains in
the system then I will report it. About 80% of our problem list
vanished from FC2 to FC3 and what will happen with FC3 I do not know. I
suspect the bugs will be replaced. Many of these problems are like
reporting checksum errors on iso files. It doesn't help the file with
the error because it is obsolete. It just helps insure that the next
release doesn't have an error.

howto upgrade fc3 to x86_64?
by sean darcy
I'm running fc3. Just got a new athlon64 macine. Just moved over my hard
drives. Works fine.
Now I want to convert/upgrade the fc3 from i386 to x86_64. I'd really
prefer not to do a clean install - I'll never remember how this machine is
set up.
thanks

how to have hal be selective
by Brian Millett
Hello, I just purchased a DVD+-RW drive that I put into a usb 2.0
enclosure. The manufacture is:
scsi0 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Vendor: MAD DOG Model: MD-16XDVD9 Rev: 2.F6
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
It looks like to burn anything (dvd/cd) with this external device, I have
to stop haldaemon. If I do not, then I have coasters.
My question is, is there any way to have hal ignore this device when a
blank cd/dvd is inserted? I, ofcourse, would want hal to mount any valid
disk that is inserted.
Thanks.
Oh yeah, I am running rawhide yumed on top of FC3.

Memory consumption
by Alexandre Strube
Did anything happened after kernel 2.6.7? I've upgraded my kernel to
2.6.8 (yeah fc2, but I've seen some people complaining about it on newer
kernels, that's why I'm asking here). The memory is being used more than
ever, for the same applications. Something like 300 megs for evolution
(The machine has 384mb of ram, so you could figure what happens with
swap).
I don't know what happened, but after some upgrades the machine IS
consuming more memory than ever. This happens with every app I use,
evolution was an example.

X server problems?
by Vadim
Not sure whether this belongs in this forum, or if any of you have
noticed this or not, but:
I'm running FC3 on my laptop.
We run Oracle on RH AS 2.1 and RH ES 3.0. We also use ocfs for storage.
When I try to run an ocfstool on the server, which is a graphic ocfs
configuration tool, I get the window, but clicking on any meny items
crashes the windows and causes the following errors on client:
sh-2.05# rpm -qa|grep ocfs
ocfs-support-1.0.10-1
ocfs-tools-1.0.10-1
ocfs-2.4.9-e-enterprise-1.0.11-1
sh-2.05# ocfstool
Gdk-ERROR **: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
serial 947 error_code 3 request_code 38 minor_code 0
Gdk-ERROR **: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)
serial 948 error_code 10 request_code 102 minor_code 0
Running same tool on my FC2 worked fine. Running it on my RH8 desktop
also works fine.
Similarly, I can launch xterm to my FC3 form the same host and that will
work fine as well. Tried xedit - works fine.
Looked through the web - nothing.
Any ideas?
