Re: System Role for managing a Password Policy
by Jörg Kastning
Hi there,
So I cloned the template at
https://github.com/linux-system-roles/template and started to work on my
very first try.
You'll find my first minimum version which is not fully functional, not
production ready and for sure full of bugs and bad practises yet at
https://github.com/Tronde/pam_pwd.
Since this is my very first attempt to contribute to the Linux System
Role project I would like to ask for some early guidance and mentoring.
Please let me know if you see any issues or problems in style of coding etc.
Your feedback is welcome and appreciated to help my to improve my skill.
Here on the list or as a GitHub issue.
I still have to deal with some issues implementing the steps for a
password policy described in the Red Hat KB [Set Password
Policy/Complexity in Red Hat Enterprise Linux
8](https://access.redhat.com/solutions/5027331). And I'm going to check
how things work in RHEL 9 Beta. So I may have to move some tasks to
release specific playbooks.
But I'm very interested in getting early feedback from you folks so I
won't run in the wrong direction a long time.
Looking forward to reading from you.
Best regards,
Joerg

Great! Then I'll just start and let you know when I have something to show.

System Role for managing a Password Policy
by Jörg Kastning
Hello folks,
My name is Joerg and I'm employed as a System Administrator at Bielefeld
University.
I'm tasked to implement a password policy for our Linux systems. And I
would like to contribute to the Linux System Roles project by creating a
System Role for managing a Password Policy as described in Bugzilla
2038620 (URL: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2038620).
I read the contribution guide but still have some questions before I start.
Is it a good way to start by cloning the template at
https://github.com/linux-system-roles/template? And to sent a pull
request once I have a minimum viable product to show?
Or would you suggest another way to start?
Looking forward to reading your answers, soon.
Best regards,
Joerg
