Hey All,
Fedora applied and got selected as a Mentoring Organization for Google
Summer of Code 2025!!
I, Sumantro Mukherjee (OA) and Fernando Mancera (OA) welcome each of you to
participate in this year's projects. This year we have seasoned mentors who
have decided to mentor the students. We will soon have an official
announcement on the Fedora Magazine with more details about the mentors and
OAs , some housekeeping notes before starting off the contribution period!
Stay tuned!

Hello Mentors!
Glad to see Fedora featured in GSOC after several years, and I'm planning
to apply for both Fedora project ideas.
I have some specific questions regarding the "AI-Powered Log Triage and
Security Alert Aggregator" project...
# AI-Powered Log Triage and Security Alert Aggregator for Fedora
1. Is the tool supposed to run as a systemd-service reading the journalctl
, selinux logs etc. or a diagnostics tool that reads these logs only when
run with sudo.
2. How sophisticated is the ai analysis expected to be? for if the tool
runs as a service it would have significant performance cost.
3. Is the tool expected to stop a dangerous process too or would it be only
an analysis tool.
# General
4. The documentation at
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/mentored-projects/gsoc/2025/#communica…
mentions an IRC chat room on Freenode, which is no longer operational.
Could you please clarify the current communication channels for
mentee-mentor interactions?
5. Could you please recommend specific Fedora repositories that would help
me familiarize myself with Fedora coding standards? I'd like to start
contributing to smaller issues.
Looking forward to potentially contributing to Fedora through GSOC 2025!
Thanks,

Hey All,
Fedora has applied to be a Mentoring Organization for Google Summer of Code
2025. Google is yet to declare Fedora as a mentoring Org.
I, Sumantro Mukherjee (OA) along with Fernando Mancera (OA) would like to
welcome each and everyone who has shown the willingness to participate in
GSoC 2025. This email will contain some pointers as to how to proceed with
contributions.
First things first, The Fedora Project is a community of people working
together to build a free and open source software platform and to
collaborate on and share user-focused solutions built on that platform [0].
The project ideas for this year are listed here [1]. The idea page, gets
updated with time, please stay tuned and watch out for changes. Fedora is
guarded by a strict Code of Conduct (CoC) [2] which everyone is highly
recommended to abide by as they start contributing and interacting with the
community.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please let OAs know either over
