Introduction and Project Doubts
by Abhishek Sharma
Hi Everyone!
I am interested in contributing to Fedora Android App and design in general
at Fedora, as a UI/UX Designer.
I'm a digital creative currently majoring in Information Technology (with
minor in Human-Computer Interaction). My interest lies in product design
and user research but I don't mind banging lines of code to build stuff. You
can view my portfolio here <http://www.thelittlewonder.co> or check
out my shots
on Dribbble <https://dribbble.com/thelittlewonder>.

I have decided to dedicate the summer to Fedora's Android App Redesign and
integration (Improve Fedora Android App GSoC'18 Project
<https://docs.fedoraproject.org/mentored-projects/gsoc/2018/ideas.html#imp...>).
However, I have some Doubts for the mentors (👋Sumantro and Kanika):
- The project description talks about XML & Android but the codebase
<https://github.com/sumantro93/Fedora-Community-App> is currently in
Javascript (Ionic App). Will the application be ported over to android?
- I am working on an App Critique and suggestions on the current design of
the application, where should I be sharing that?
- Are there any issues/problems I can work on as of now in order to make my
GSoC application strong?
Best,
Abhishek

[Self Intoduction] Amitosh Swain Mahapatra
by Amitosh Swain Mahapatra
Hello everyone,
I'm Amitosh Swain Mahapatra, a 3rd year CS undergraduate from Cuttack, India.
I've been using Fedora for more than 6 years and also been an active
Fedora community member for a while. I am well-experienced in web dev,
NodeJS, React, AngularJS, Android, C#, and ASP.NET. I also take part
in the Fedora .NET SIG to improve the ecosystem of .NET in Fedora.
For GSoC 2018, I'm interested to apply for the GSoC project "Improve
Fedora Android App - Backend". I'm a long time Fedora user, and this
would be my chance to give something back to the community.
Thank You,
Amitosh Swain Mahapatra

Fedora App
by Sanjay Prajapat
Hello Everyone,
I read about Fedora App and i want to contribute into it. But
i'have some questions :
Fedora App project is divided into two parts :
1. UI/UX Research and Design
2. Backend
Can i apply for only one part or both ?
I am trying to clone the App repository
<https://github.com/sumantro93/Fedora-Community-App> and build the app
since last 2-3 days but project build is not working. I am using Android
Studio 3.0.1, Does this project is build under something different version
of android studio or different IDE like Eclipse or am i missing something ?

Trying to figure out IRC? This may help!
by Justin W. Flory
Hi all! Sending this to summer-coding and outreachy mailing lists.
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is an important part of communication for any
of the summer coding / internship programs Fedora participates in; if
you're interested in our projects, you should join our IRC channels.
The Fedora Project uses the Freenode IRC network to host our instant
messaging channels. Channels are a place for group or team discussion.
For example, on Freenode, the Fedora CommOps team is found in
#fedora-commops.
Not sure how to connect or annoyed that you miss messages when you log
out? Check out Riot, an open source messaging client that helps solve
this problem. Riot has a web app, desktop client, and mobile clients to
help you remain connected even when you're not at the keyboard.
https://opensource.com/article/17/5/introducing-riot-IRC
In Riot, you can connect to the Fedora CommOps channel with the address
#freenode_#fedora-commops:matrix.org.
I hope some of you find this helpful. Feel free to ask questions if you
are stuck.
