RFC: suds plugins
by Jeff Ortel
All,
Suds currently has (2) ways (hooks) for users to plug in functionality (not including
Transports). First, is the schema Doctor used to repair broken XSDs at runtime. Second,
is the Binding.replyfilter used to alter the raw reply text. In most cases, the
replyfilter is used to strip out undesirable characters before sax parsing.
Recently, I needed to add a third hook to provide users with a means to modify the
outgoing soap envelope for certain edge cases. Rather then add yet another one-off hook,
it seems better to add a more general "plugin" facility. Something more formal and
extensible. And so I did in 0.4 (beta).
Please see: https://fedorahosted.org/suds/wiki/Documentation#PLUGINS and provide
comments/suggestions including additional hooks.
Thanks,
Jeff

response has bad XML, double enclosed element
by Matthew
Hi,
It's been awhile since I've had to post to this list but now I have a confusing problem.
My script queries MLB.com's servers for a media location request. The response back has an element of type xsd:string named "cdn".
That element is now being double enclosed.
What used to be:
<cdn>foobar</cdn>
is now comng back as:
<cdn><cdn>foobar</cdn></cdn>
So it seems like this is both a string (inside <cdn>) and a complex type (outside <cdn>.) I'm hoping this is just an error that they will resolve on their end. If that's not the case, is it valid SOAP/XML to have a complex type and a string type with the same name? How would I go about changing my local xsd file to accomodate this?
Because of many other omissions or errors in their official xsd files, I'm using my own xsd to parse their responses. I'm attaching that xsd. The elelment in question is an element of media-item.
Thanks,
Matthew Levine

How long should a 24MB SOAP response take to parse?
by Patrick Armstrong
Hi,
I've been using suds pretty happily the last few months with Condor.
Lately, we've started running Condor with more jobs, and I've noticed
a huge slowdown with suds when I get big XML responses. The Soap
messages I'm getting from Condor are about 24MB, and it's taking suds
about 20-30 minutes on a reasonably fast machine to get the SOAP
response into a native object.
The WSDL file I'm using is here: https://particle.phys.uvic.ca/
~patricka/condorSchedd.xml
I'll query it with something like:
from suds.client import Client
import logging
logging.basicConfig(level=logging.DEBUG)
logging.getLogger('suds.client').setLevel(logging.DEBUG)
host = "mymachine.tld"
wsdl = "file:///path/to/condorSchedd.wsdl"
schedd = Client(wsdl, location="http://%s:8080/" % host)
ads = schedd.service.getJobAds(None, None)
Here's an example of the XML that Condor's producing: https://particle.phys.uvic.ca/
~patricka/condor.xml
Is there anything that can be done to speed this up? Or any further
information I can give you?
Thanks,
--patrick
