Thanks Michael. Ever since I saw that the version was so low compared to what I'd used
on RHEL 6 I've suspected the same. We aren't allowed here to use PPAs. One of my
coworkers searched sssd in back ports of Debian 6 and couldn't find it. Oh well, maybe
there is an easier more established way of doing simple AD auth in Debian 6 than sssd.

You should seriously consider upgrading. This old version has bugs in the
caching code which leads to user/groups to be still present even when deleted
in the LDAP server.
