Of note, I used the following simple program to test this release:
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <grp.h>
int main(int argc, char **argv)
{
size_t size = 512;
gid_t list[512];
initgroups(argv[1], 0);
return 0;
}
At the commandline:
time ./getgroups <username>
Before my patch, this would report 3-5 seconds when run against users on
my setup (who are members of some moderate sized groups, around 300
users per group. It averaged about 1 second per group).
After this patch, the time was reduced to about 0.7 seconds for all
users, regardless of the number of groups they were members of.
That 0.7 seconds corresponds to very little more than the round-trip to
the LDAP server.
