Despite a posting to the lists earlier in the month[1] to check our spin content, apparently no one caught the fact that there was no Moblin spin among the release candidates. At this point, we're going to have to wait for mirrors to die down before we can consider shipping a late copy. I went to the Spins process page[2] to see where things might have gone off track, and found that the page stated that after acceptance the following step occurs: "Spin added to a wiki page containing a table listing all of the spins for Fedora X (very similar to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/11/FeatureList)" Note that no one is responsible or accountable for it happening according to the spin page, nor is the proper page listed. I made a change, so now the step reads: "The Spins Wrangler adds the Spin to a wiki page containing a table listing all of the spins for Fedora 14 (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/14/Spins)" This change is not a decree by any means, but it seemed like the most effective way to ensure entries get made. I can't help but think we would have caught this problem if there were regular Spins meetings, or at least schedule items that indicate the SIG should carry out a task like checking the list of Spins before RC phase. Earlier, I brought up the idea of entering a set of schedule items. Ideally, someone on the SIG will step up to gather that list of dates for Fedora 14, and talk to John Poelstra to make sure the dates get on the release schedule. I'd also like to make sure we have a clear spins wrangler who knows the responsibilities that come with that role. That person should check over the spins process page[2] and find any places where it's not clear what the task is, and who is responsible for doing it. Hello and a question about services included in spins

First of all hello dear fedora contributors. I'm new on this list, so please be indulgent if I don't follow all the rules yet. And excuse my (sometimes) poor english, that's because I'm French. My question was for the spin maintainers : There is a feature (nearing completion) that was created in order to remove the default MTA from the default install. As of today I downloaded the Fedora 14 beta KDE x86_64 live spin (by the way, great job and thank you, the KDE integration is better than ever, still a few quirks, but everyone on the bugzilla is reactive when kindly asked) and have seen sendmail still installed and sendmail service enabled by default. But the feature allows for uninstallation, without compromising the rest of the system. Try a 'yum remove sendmail' : it *IS* definitely possible to remove it without having redhat-lsb, cron and a bunch of things removed. So (here it comes) why not remove sendmail from the default spins I think the spins are desktop-oriented and desktop users don't need MTA, right ? It could help save 1.5M according to yum, and allow faster boot of the live spin. That was just a suggestion, what is your opinion ? regards, Corentin

Issues with Design, KDE and XFCE spins

The Design Spin has failed to compose since September 8th. Currently a dependency issue with gnome-python2-evolution and libcamel is blocking the compose. The KDE and XFCE spins appear to be slightly over their targeted sizes.

We have reached the point in the release process where we need to be serious about getting under target sizes for spins. If your spin is oversize at this point, you need to looking at cutting out packages to get under your target size.

livecd-tools-034 needs testing

I have done a new build of livecd-tools that has lots of bugfixes (at least I hope), but needs lots of testing. Testing image building takes a long time and I can't do too much myself and we'd really like to be able to use this rather than an update to 033 with only a couple of cherry picked fixes. Not that there has been a reported problem with gdm in testing. So you might want to avoid that package when testing. Design Suite Spin. Inkscape desktop icon link. Necessary?

This was obviously implemented before I jumped on board as a Co-Maintainer of the Design Suite Spin. But why was this little icon link originally implemented and placed on the desktop, I can't really see what purpose it serves in the big picture. How would people feel if we removed it? spin kickstart/minimization cleanups

Hi All, Firstly sorry for the cross post, I think its some what relevant for both. I started this discussion in the F-13 timeframe but it was too late in the cycle and was considered to risky, leading up to the beta it might be a little close too. Looking through the various kickstart files in the git repo while looking at a couple of issues that I'm seeing on my own spins I have a couple of queries. Firstly in fedora-live-minimization.ks and fedora-livecd-desktop.ks there's a whole lot of removal of packages. This is basically what i do in the fedora-live-mini.ks and I think things like @printing can (and should be) removed from base so that other kick starts don't have to explicitly remove everything that it adds in. Its easy enough for the people that want printing to add the one liner into their own kickstart. There's also a comment in the fedora-live-minimization.ks about removing them from comps for F-14. Is there a reason this hasn't happened? I was also suprised to see things like "printing" related things in the base-x group in comps. It looks like someone had this on their todo list, is it still there? Ultimately I would like to get rid of the fedora-live-mini.ks file and use the mainline base. I believe that base should be exactly that... the base/core packages and all the useful scripting. Then possibly have a base-desktop which adds all the core X stuff that any desktop spin would need (plus associated related scripts that all could make use of like X auto login). From there a desktop based spin would just need to pull in the base-desktop.ks to get all the core stuff to get to a minimal X. Thoughts? Peter

Some bugs was fixed too. ==What is new?== The following bugs has been fixed: * rf#164 – OpenOffice.org was added on LiveDVD-KDE; * rf#165 – fix login after LiveDVD-KDE install; * rf#171 – add knetworkmanager-vpnc, knetworkmanager-pptp, knetworkmanager-openvpn packages on KDE Live CD/DVD; * rf#172 – fixed display manager selection on first boot; * rf#176 – all GPG keys from /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/ was imported to rpm database (on Live disks); * rf#177 – on Live disks added packages for wireless support: kmod-wl, kmod-rt2860, kmod-rt2870, kmod-rt3070; * rf#179 – flash-plugin on 32-bit system does not depend on nspluginwrapper; * rf#180 – increased autologin time on Live disks (where gdm is used). You can download DVD and CD images, delta, LiveCD with GNOME, KDE, XFCE or LXDE desktop and LiveDVD with possibility to choose various desktops. Monday Spins SIG meeting cancelled
