From my experience the server services generally upstream tends to be
less cavalier in their changes to config files and from my experience
a lot of newer releases will still work on older config files, instead
you either don't get a feature or it operates in a default manner.
The only thing that I can remember on top of my head is apache 2.4 which
did introduce slight incompatability in configuration ( which Remi
detected and fixed I belived distro wide for it ) as well as freeradius
2.x and now bind 10 I believe.
