We could do a survey, I could set one up pretty quickly. Could also do, or
as an alternative do, one-on-one interviews with sysadmins. We could make
sure the interviews covered a cross section of the Server personas.
I think for Fedora 24, the proposed change is good because it's a.) a
more flexible layout than the present one b.) had testing since it's
the Cloud Atomic ISO default layout, with min/max change only.
A survey could be useful for Fedora 25+ but in that case I'd be
curious at least as much about what sysadmins don't know. For example,
I've yet to hear a sysadmin suggest quotas for var or opt instead of
separate partitions. Have they used quotas? Why not? Separate var opt
may be common, but that doesn't mean it's optimal.
In any case, if the poll can show whether they'd be receptive to
alternative solutions, I think that'd be helpful not just for the
server WG but also the Cockpit and storaged folks to decide what
resources to commit to supporting quotas, if any.
