Fedora 27 Talking points - Server section.

Hello team, I'm taking care of the Talking Points for the F27 release. As usual the Marketing group is asking for the news for each section in the related wiki page [1]. This group did a great work on release 26 and we need the same now for the 27. Of course we would like having not only a mere list of features, rather a general idea of the best and greater changes to allow each part of the project, specially Ambassadors, to take this into account to promote the new release. Modular Server Naming

While discussing the Server Edition icons on https://pagure.io/design/issue/545, an important question was raised: How exactly will we brand the modular release? I'm personally of the opinion that we should just call it "Fedora Server Edition" and have something like "built atop Fedora Modularity" in the description of it, rather than create a new brand. What does the rest of the WG think? We will probably end up painting this shed at tomorrow's meeting.

Server SIG Weekly Meeting Agenda (2017-09-19)

OK, since our last meeting, the Fedora Council came back and requested that Fedora Server should ship a modular release of Fedora 27 and that the Council is comfortable with offering us an additional month to do this. Langdon has prepared a proposed schedule[1] on the FESCo ticket[2] for Modular Server. I see the following issues we need to discuss and vote on for this meeting: 1) Will we release a modular Fedora Server Edition in the F27 release? 2) Will we still attempt to release traditional Fedora Server media, and on what schedule? Or will we simply rely on the Everything media to handle updates from F26 and provide no fresh install media for non-modular installs? We also have a design ticket[3] for a new modular server icon. We as the Server SIG should weigh in on the proposed designs and/or make new suggestions. Lastly, Matthew (speaking for the Council) asked that we revise our proposed governance changes from last week and change the term "shed-painters" back to "WG members", simply to retain uniformity with how the other groups are working. We don't need to discuss this in the meeting. F27 Beta blocker fixing update karma requests

Hi folks! There's a few updates in updates-testing right now which fix F27 blockers and could do with testing and karma: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2017-9a6df5d962 (freeipa, fixes some deployment bugs and should fix enrolment via kickstart) https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2017-0da1ebbe4f (kernel, fixes initial-setup on Raspberry Pi, but karma from all hardware is valuable) https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2017-d8c9ac15c3 (GNOME 3.26.0 megaupdate) - we're not sure yet whether we're going to include this in Beta, but if folks could test it and report any new bugs or give positive karma if it updates OK and doesn't seem to have any major new bugs, that'd be great. Council request for revised contingency for F27 Modular Server

See https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issue/141 and https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/teams/council/council.2017-09-13-13.00.lo… from which we came up with this request: Modularity is an important Fedora priority, and having it be a non-sidecar option is important to Red Hat as a stakeholder. Since Modularity allows us to decouple the Modular Server release from the GA date, we'd like to take advantage of that and ask the Server SIG and Modularity WG to come up with an alternate schedule landing as an official Edition about a month later. I know there are a lot of details to be determined, but that's the basic request. I expect we'll have some placeholder release-day content covering both "new shiny thing coming soon!" and "if you are using current Fedora Server" and possibly also "if you are using Fedora in a server context, but not actually Fedora Server Edition".
