langpacks packages not available in Server compose
by Parag Nemade
Hi,
I tested Fedora 24 Alpha Server install by adding language support for more than one language. I saw in anaconda/packaging.log that to have langpacks working we need to have langpacks-* packages be available in the repository. As there is not a single "langpacks-*" meta-package is available, Server installation showed no langpacks package translations installed on the Server system.
I request to add all the langpacks-* meta-packages in Server compose tree.
Regards,
Parag.

Proposal: Changes to Fedora Server default partitioning scheme
by Stephen Gallagher
The following proposal comes out of the discussion at this weeks Server SIG
meeting[1]
Fedora Server will have:
* / (root) will be a minimum of 2 GiB and a maximum of 15 GiB
* SWAP will continue to be calculated automatically based on available RAM on
the system
* All unused space will be assigned to a volume group and available to be
assigned to new partitions or extend existing partitions.
* Anaconda will continue to handle the appropriate EFI and /boot settings
We also discussed during the meeting whether we should have a separate /var
partition by default, but the general sense was that we might be better served
by developing a mechanism to allow partitions to be split from existing mount
points, which would be more flexible going forward.
As we did not have quorum in the meeting by the point we got to this proposal,
I'm taking it to the list for discussion and votes.
For the record, the current behavior of the partitioning scheme is for / to be
given up to 50 GiB of space and then any remaining space after that is assigned
to a separate /home partition.

Please help test F24 Alpha candidate 7!
by Adam Williamson
Hi folks! We have a new Fedora 24 Alpha candidate compose (like an 'RC'
in earlier cycles) and go/no-go is tomorrow, so if you could please
help test it, that would be great!
The Server validation page is here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_24_Alpha_1.7_Server
and has download links. You can enter your results by editing the
results tables directly (please follow the instructions on the page for
that) or using the 'relval' tool - 'dnf --enablerepo=updates-testing
install relval', 'relval report-results'.
Not a lot changed in Server stuff between candidate 6 and candidate 7
so in the worst case we can count the candidate 6 results for go/no-go,
but it'd be great if folks can just double-check everything if
possible.
Thanks a lot!

Once we're past alpha and there's a compose with this change, I'll do
what I do best and try to blow it up. I have a good idea where the
edge cases might pop up.
If there ends up being a problem or even a concern, I see two
straightforward paths: a.) minimally up the max size, b.) punt to F25.
Any change beyond minimally upping the max size make this not a tweak,
and thus into punting territory in my opinion. But I think it's safe.
And it's also not the last tweak. If some other changes can happen for
F25/F26 then it does actually make sense to leave the extra space as
unpartitioned free space. Who knows, someone might want space that's
not LVM managed... maybe they want a dmcrypt volume directly on a
partition.

linux-firmware installed by default, but no subpackages with actual
firmware installed
by Chris Murphy
Hi,
On Fedora 23 and 24 Server, I'm seeing the linux-firmware package
installed, but none of its subpackages. As a consequence, any wifi
requiring firmware that Fedora supports in the linux-firmware package
isn't installed. So I'm kinda curious what the point of installing
linux-firmware is, if none of the firmware is actually being
installed? And also if this is intentional or a bug?
Thanks,

Introduction and interest in Fedora server working group.
by Michael J Wolf
Hello
I'm Mike Wolf and I would like to be part of the Server Work Group.
I'm currently focused in the secondary arches area, specifically the POWER
related areas. In working with the secondary arches team I've been helping
with testing the releases as well and making sure that any issues found are
resolved. I have also been working with the secondary arches folks to
ensure
we have the optimal package versions available and also helped with getting
EPEL available for the ppc64le architecture. I have also been helping in
the
fedora area by helping projects get access to POWER hardware. This is done
both through access to Universityguest instances and by providing actual
systems.
I'm looking forward to a chance to be a part of the server working group.
thanks
