Postgres problems again
by Attila Heidrich
Postgres database stopped again... I guess the problem was the enormous
number of open files...
We use 9.2, and we also use the postgres plugin - which still doesn't
really support 9.2 as far as I know.
Altogether Postgres (only the one storing the RHQ database) can only run
for a few days, than the number of open files and the open connections
raise really high, and finally I should restart it.
Usually I restart RHQ as well, I generally have no time to play with "what
to restart".
The log is practically endless, I can quote, but I think I should know
something to look for in it.

Attila

JDK 7u40 bug
by John Sanda
I just learned about a NIO bug[1] in the latest JDK 7u40 release that could impact RHQ. The storage node makes extensive use of java.nio as does the client library used by the RHQ server. Just something of which to be aware if you are running on Java 7 u40.

Platform is often down while running fine?
by Attila Heidrich
Thanks a lot for the very quick answers I got recently!
I still have a single problem. Why is it so, that a Platform (the only
Windows XP we have got) is reported to be available only some 60% of the
time, while all the measurements on the same machine are OK?
Also the accessibility of the services on this Platform (high level network
accessibility tested by port services from outside the virtual machine
which runs the Platform) are OK, but the availability of the Platform
itself isn't!

RHQ 4.9 eats all resources of Pg
by Attila Heidrich
Hi!
since I use 4.9, the Pg under the RHQ consumes most of the resources.
open files reached 20K during the weekend, which stopped the whole server
working, and also the used physical memory increasing monotonically. I have
had to restart RHQ server only, did not touch Pg.
what should I do to prevent this? I have never suffered from this with 4.8!

Re: rhq-users Digest, Vol 44, Issue 5
by Attila Heidrich
Hi!
I have upgraded the server without serious problems. I missed the check for
the JAVA_HOME variable from the cassandra patch, but I have noticed, that
nothing happened without it, so there was no problem at all.
After upgrade, most of the agents has been upgraded too, but one - maybe
there're some problem with the config there, it was interesting, that the
error message was: "this version is not supported", since all the agents
were 4.8.0 including this one. After upgrading by hand, no problem.
I have got a single error message in the web application:

This one (or similar) happens quite often. Doesn't cause any visible

Unzipping RHQ 4.9 on Windows - Path Length Error
by fred.holahan@opensourceadvisory.com
Hello,
I am attempting to unzip the 4.9.0 archive on Windows 8 and am receiving
several "path too long" failures (see attached screen shot). I've
intentionally chosen a very short install path (c:\r490) to minimize the
file path size.
Suggestions?
Thank you.
