Custom UI?
by Prashant Shewale
Hi,
We are in the process of developing new centralized management system
for our product. While doing research related to that I came across RHQ
project and am very happy to see that it has all the features that we want
like inventory, monitoring, configuration, operations, events etc.
I am thinking of using RHQ as a base for our management application. But
we are interested in building Custom UI as per customer requirement. So can
you please let me know is it possible to have RHQ server as base but to have
different UI for that? Are there any APIs available to build own UI?
If it is not possible to have custom UI, can I modify exiting UI to add
information related to our product etc.?
Thanks for such a wonderful management platform.
Regards,
Prashant

RHQ at JBoss Server 5.1.0GA
by Carlos Enrique Chacon Rodriguez
Hi, I need some help, please.
I was trying to deploy RHQ at JBoss Server 5.1.0GA... To do this, I just copied the rhq.ear folder to the deploy folder (at JBoss 5.1) and modify some configuration files, like: rhq-ds, etc.
The reason to do this is that I want to invoke the rhq server services from my own application (it runs at JBoss 5.1). (I know that there are workarounds to do this, but install a RHQ standalone server is not an option).
However, I'm getting some errors (or warning situations):
1. The deploy takes a lot of time, like 5 to 10 minutes.
2. The deploy breaks down when trying to deploy the rhq-portal.war. The Reason is that EJB ResourceManagerBean is never deployed; I don't know why...

Any ideas or Suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

event reporting stops after a while
by Bala Nair
I have noticed this behavior in monitoring both log4j log files and the
windows event log. After some period of time (close to 24 hours) I no
longer see events collected from these logs. If I go into the inventory
connection settings for the resource and edit the event log settings or
the event sources settings (in the Linux platform) and save the changes,
event collection starts working again. After another 24 hr period it
stops again. I haven't tried restarting the agent instead of editing
these settings, so I'm not sure if that will fix the problem. On the
Linux side is it possible that rolling over the log file will cause the
event monitor to lose track of the named file?

Has anyone done this? Are there any pitfalls to watch out for ? Does it
work?
Thanks in advance,

alerts not being generated
by Bala Nair
We have an HA pair of rhq servers that we're running the performance
plugin against. Just recently we noticed that alerts are no longer
being sent. When we looked at the rhq jboss AS instance we see that the
AlertConditionConsumerBean service is down. In the server log we see this:
