MySQL Connections
by JAVIER MANSO PEÑA
Hi
I'm having a problem with RHQ and MySQL plugin. As RHQ monitors MySQL, the number of connection in MySQL grow. It happens until MySQL max connections is reached. Then MySQL doesn't accept more connection.
How can I avoid this growth of connections in MySQL?

custom jmx mbean
by Cesar William
Hi,
I have this service:
<service name="Usage" discovery="MBeanResourceDiscoveryComponent"
class="MBeanResourceComponent"
description="Usage"
createDeletePolicy="neither" singleton="true">
<plugin-configuration>
<c:simple-property name="objectName" readOnly="true"
default="javax.slee.usage:type=Usage"/>
<c:simple-property name="nameTemplate" default="SleeUsage"/>
</plugin-configuration>
<operation name="getFirstCount"
displayName="getFirstCount"
description="Operation exposed for management">
<parameters>
<c:simple-property name="p1" type="boolean" required="true"
default="false"/>
</parameters>
<results>
<c:simple-property name="operationResult" type="long"/>
</results>
</operation>
<metric property="FirstCount"
displayName="First Count"
defaultOn="true"
displayType="summary"
defaultInterval="30000"
description="First Count">
<parameters>
<c:simple-property name="p1" type="boolean"
default="false"/>
</parameters>
</metric>
</service>
The operation works fine. But in the metric I can't pass a parameter like I
done. How can I show the FirstCount in metric?

Building an RHQ client
by John Sanda
Last week I started building my own RHQ client. The docs say to get the
required libraries from the CLI distribution. If you are using maven or
another build tool that provides dependency management as I was, copying
the libraries from the CLI is not what you want. It took some effort to
get the dependencies that I needed sorted out. To alleviate this for
others, I pushed a new module into the master branch that takes care of
all the dependencies for you. The only dependency that you need to
declare is,
<dependency>
<groupId>org.rhq</groupId>
<artifactId>remote-client-deps</artifactId>
<version>4.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version>
<type>pom</type>
</dependency>
This will pull in all of the required RHQ dependencies. I wrote up a
blog post about this at
http://johnsanda.blogspot.com/2010/08/building-rhq-client.html that you
read if you want more details on what I ran into.

Unable to register remote RHQ-Agent "The agent will now wait until it has registered with the server"
by Prashant Nagaraja
Hi,
I am unable to register remote rhq-agent (3.0 final) with the server (3.0
final).
I am able to ping the remote RHQ-Agent from the RHQ-Server and RHQ-Server
from the Remote RHQ-Agent. Also I am able to connect / telnet into
RHQ-Server's tcp:7080 from the client and RHQ-Agent's (the system has NAT,
but can connect to the publicly advertised IP as found in
http://myipaddress.com) tcp:16163 from the RHQ-Server. The client does not
have any active firewall and all the requisite ports tcp:16163, tcp:7080,
tcp:7443 are open on the server side.
I have gone through the FAQ and the blog entry
http://pilhuhn.blogspot.com/2008/08/rhq-tip-of-day-agent-waiting-at-start...
rhq-agent.bat --clean produces
Agent Name [Mobilapps] : TNSB
Agent Hostname or IP Address [!*] : 172.16.0.252
Agent Port [16163] :
RHQ Server Hostname or IP Address [172.16.0.252] : 122.181.162.143
RHQ Server Port [7080] :
The setup has been completed for the preferences at node
[/rhq-agent/default].
The agent will now wait until it has registered with the server...
The server has rejected the agent registration request. Cause:
[org.rhq.core.clientapi.server.core.AgentRegistrationException:Server cannot
ping the agent's endpoint. The agent's endpoint is probably invalid or there
is a firewall preventing the server from connecting to the agent. Endpoint:
socket://
172.16.0.252:16163/?rhq.communications.connector.rhqtype=agent&numAcceptThreads=1&maxPoolSize=303&clientMaxPoolSize=304&socketTimeout=60000&enableTcpNoDelay=true&backlog=200
]
Will retry the agent registration request soon...
the netstat on the remote RHQ-Agent produces
TCP 172.16.0.252:5900 ABTS-KK-Static-ILP-130:4787 ESTABLISHED
TCP 172.16.0.252:16163 ABTS-KK-Static-ILP-130:3165 ESTABLISHED
TCP 172.16.0.252:55630 ABTS-KK-Static-ILP-143:7080 ESTABLISHED
TCP 172.16.0.252:55631 ABTS-KK-Static-ILP-143:7080 TIME_WAIT
TCP 172.16.0.252:55633 ABTS-KK-Static-ILP-143:7080 TIME_WAIT
Why the agent is unable to register / throwing errors?

MySQL Plugin discovery
by JAVIER MANSO PEÑA
Hi
I already run my server working propertly. I got the agent and I put it into my MySQL server. It works great but when I accomplish an auto discovery, my RHQ server doesnt recognize MySQL as a resource. It recognizes CPU, File sistem, Samba Serber, SSHD as resources but nothing about MySQL.
Im using RHEL5 in both (RHQ server and MySQL server). No firewalls, iptables are disabled. I put every plugins in the agent, including "rhq-mysql-plugin-3.0.0.jar".
Am I doing something wrong?

Disabling alerts programmatically
by Steve Millidge
Hi,
I've got a question or a future requirement.
I'm setting up an environment for a customer and we have a number of alerts
set so that if a JBoss server crashes it can be automatically restarted. The
problem is if an administrator wants to stop a server or group of servers
then they have to remember to disable the alert before shutting down JBoss
otherwise RHQ will just restart the JBoss server.
Is there any way of scripting this using the CLI? If so I could create a
custom stop script that disabled the alert using the CLI.
Alternatively are there any plans to provide functionality that could link
whether an alert is disabled or enabled based on an operation.
This customer is migrating from WebLogic and they are used to the Node
Manager which can keeps track of which servers should be running and which
have been manually stopped and do the right thing.
