Things I dont know how to do with plugins
by Bryan Kearney
Working through a plugin, there were a couple of things I did not know
how to do. Any pointers on best practices would be appreciated.
1) I would like to exposed operations based on the state (availability)
of the resource.
2) I would like to kick off discovery based on an operation being executed.
3) I would like to update availability based on an operation.
I assume some/all of this is supported.

Precomputation of some data ?
by Heiko W.Rupp
Hi,
when looking at Oracle EM activity, I am seeing the following as a top consumer
every hour:
SELECT MIN(time_stamp) FROM RHQ_MEASUREMENT_DATA_NUM_1H
That minimum value only changes after a data purge, so it should be possible to
take the (theoretical) minimum from after the purge, store it e.g. in the systems table
and retrieve it with a single select.
Of course this once per hour thing is no real big deal, but nicely shows where we
have potential for optimization - especially as the above select adds to the duration
of the hourly purge job, which stresses the database job anyway.

RHQ Git Branch cleanup
by Jay Shaughnessy
The following branches have been deleted from RHQ git origin in a round
of cleanup. If you were actively tracking any of these branches please
reply to this message. Otherwise, please delete any local tracking
branches you may have for these. Avoid pushing a local tracking
branch, as it will recreate the origin branch.
Thanks, Jay

rhq 3.0.0.B06 pulled
by Bala Nair
Just saw the following message on the wiki:
This was a bad release. The distribution was missing some jars due to an
error during the release process. Please use 3.0.0.B05 until 3.0.0 final
is released.
We installed this release last week and it's been working fine so far -
we'd like to continue using it since it contains some bug fixes we
need. Can you let us know which jars are missing? Thanks.

Problems with maven-dependency-plugin
by Alexander Kiefer
Hello together,
i try to build the whole rhq-project with maven-compile and always have the
following error
[ERROR] Failed to execute goal
org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-dependency-plugin:2.1:copy
(copy-dependencies) on project jopr-jboss-as-plugin: Error copying artifact
from /home/alexander/Downloads/git/modules/common/jboss-as/target/classes to
/home/alexander/Downloads/git/modules/plugins/jboss-as/target/classes/lib/classes:
/home/alexander/Downloads/git/modules/common/jboss-as/target/classes (Is a
directory) -> [Help 1]
I think the origin of the problem is a bug within the
maven-dependency-plugin which is described under the following link:
http://osdir.com/ml/issues.maven.apache.org/2010-04/msg00378.html
Did anybody have the same problem? I dont know how to fix it, would be
thankfull for any help.
Thanks,
Alex

Heads up: Master branch is now JDK6 only and on version 4.0.0-SNAPSHOT
by Heiko W.Rupp
Heads up to everyone:
the master branch is now at JDK 6 only - there will be no more efforts to
get it to compile with JDK 5.
As we have branched release-3.0.0 for a final release of the RHQ 3.0 series,
master's artifacts are now at version 4.0.0-SNAPSHOT.

git URL changed - update blogs
by John Mazzitelli
I don't know if anyone noticed, but I think recently (well, it could
have been several months ago for all I know), the fedorahosted GIT
server changed its URL format when getting to content using HTTP.
It used to be that you'd use this as the base URL:
http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/rhq/rhq.git?p=rhq/rhq.git;...
^^^^^^^^^^^
^^^^^^^^^^^
Notice the "rhq/rhq.git" in the path. You can't have that anymore. Take
it out to be:
http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/?p=rhq/rhq.git;...
The "p" query string argument specifies the project rhq/rhq.git; you
don't put it in the path anymore.
I had to go through all my blog entries and update them with the new URL
because otherwise, it just took you to the home of the rhq git repo, not
to the specific file or directory I was referring to in the URL.

Please review attached patch to AS 4 plugin datasource handling
by Heiko W.Rupp
Hi,
I've fixed the reported issue in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=596480
and would like to have someone look over this as well.
The biggest change for the user is that "Connection URL" and "Driver Class" are no
longer required for the datasource, as for XA datasources they may not exist, but
be encoded within <xa-connection-property> elements.
Thanks

One more space in <resource type> resourcename?
by Heiko W.Rupp
The italics font of the type makes the left side of the chars very close to the non-italics ones of the resource name:
Could/should we introduce one more space in between?
