fedora_requires_release_note granted: [Bug 238337] xsane-gimp needs to be placed in /usr/lib{, 64}/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/
by Red Hat Bugzilla
Bug 238337: xsane-gimp needs to be placed in /usr/lib{,64}/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/
Product: Fedora Core
Version: devel
Component: xsane
Nils Philippsen <nphilipp(a)redhat.com> has granted Nils Philippsen
<nphilipp(a)redhat.com>'s request for fedora_requires_release_note:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=238337
------- Additional Comments from Nils Philippsen <nphilipp(a)redhat.com>
I've noticed that my fix was still suboptimal and have updated it in
gimp-2.2.14-4.fc7 which is building at the moment.
Note that when updating from an affected version of the gimp to a fixed one
you'll likely still see the problem because the culprit is in the packages
%preun script, i.e. the broken script is run. This means that the fix will only
help for subsequent updates, use the workaround I described above once again to
fix things (hopefully for the last time).

Re: please move gimp-2.2.14-3.fc7 to dist-fc7-final (not 2.2.14-2.fc7)

Hi all,
I've Cc'ed relonotes because this bug might need mentioning in the
release notes.

I can understand that (I've got a track record in that regard). Take my
mail as a heads up not to bother with the other package then ;-).
> confirmation of the fix? (Nils, how long would it take you to verify
> the fix? I'll help if you can give me reproducer instructions..)
Verification of the fix is easy: With an installed xsane-gimp package,
update the gimp and the symlink %{_libdir}/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/xsane
should still point to %{_bindir}/xsane-gimp, like this:
nils@wombat:/usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/plug-ins> ls -l xsane
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 Apr 25 08:14 xsane -> /usr/bin/xsane-gimp
One caveat though: The bug is with the preun script, so when updating
from an affected version, you'll still see the symlink removed (because
the executed preun script contains the bug -- don't we all love rpm
scripts?) and only on the second update (from unaffected version to the
next) it will work.
This is why I think we'd need some mention in the release notes, even on
such short notice (sorry), i.e. I think I'd need to update
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Beats/PackageNotes -- is that
correct? Whom would I need to ping to get this in in time? The content
would be 1) small description of the problem, i.e. why the corrected
package alone doesn't help and the symptoms and 2) the workaround
("/usr/sbin/gimp-plugin-mgr --install '*'").

In the command above, `<language>` is one of `assamese`, `bengali`, `chinese`, `gujarati`, `hindi`, `japanese`, `kannada`, `korean`, `malayalam`, `marathi`, `oriya`, `punjabi`, `sinhala`, `tamil`, `thai`, or `telegu`.

+ === SCIM Input Method defaults ===
+ The core SCIM packages are now installed by default, but SCIM only runs by default on desktops running in an Asian locale (the current list is: `as`, `bn`, `gu`, `hi`, `ja`, `kn`, `ko`, `ml`, `mr`, `ne`, `or`, `pa`, `si`, `ta`, `te`, `th`, `ur`, `vi`, `zh`). You can use `im-chooser` via ''System -> Preferences -> Personal -> Input Method'' to enable or disable SCIM on your desktop, or to select other installed input methods.
+
When upgrading from earlier releases of Fedora, it is strongly recommended to install `scim-bridge-gtk`, which works well with 3rd party C++ applications linked against older versions of `libstdc++`.
-
- When SCIM is installed, it runs by default for users of all locales. If SCIM is installed but you do not wish to run it on your desktop, disable it using `im-chooser`.
The following table lists the default trigger hotkeys for different languages:
