I am retiring two packages - python-language-server and python-pyls_black
These were originally packaged for spyder but is no longer maintained. Instead, we have *-lsp-* packages that are used by spyder and actively maintained. These are not needed by anything else.

It's probably better to simply orphan the packages instead of completely retiring them. See the policy [1]. Generally, retirements are reserved for when a package is dead upstream, has unpatched CVEs, is being renamed, or is otherwise no longer useful to Fedora. I believe there's other IDEs that can make use of these packages.

At least python-language-server really is dead upstream[1], replaced by python-lsp-server, which is a maintained community fork.
The python-pyls_black package isn’t usable without python-language-server, and nobody has stepped up to migrate it to python-lsp-server in over a year[2], so it’s looking pretty dead upstream, too.
I agree with the general advice to orphan rather than retiring in most cases, but I think retirement is probably appropriate under the circumstances for these two packages.

You're right. Seemingly, I missed or misinterpreted the "no longer maintained" part when I first read the email. This is what happens when I don't get enough sleep ;).
Is the fork a drop-in replacement or otherwise compatible with the original? If so, you should add the appropriate Provides/Obsoletes to the new package.
