Hi, Im trying to install Fedora 27 in my PowerPc but I can not boot it, I tested ubuntu and booted ok with yaboot, also tested openbsd and freebsd with openfirwmare boot. I saw this link https://github.com/masterzorag/G5_ppc64-linux but I can not replicate it or I did not understand why so many steps and why iso will not work for him. I have problem with Nvidia driver in all tested distros... Any experience or recomendation ? Im user of Fedora about more than 8 years but I see for ppc64 some distros have less packages than others...
Regards

I have two PowerMac G5 running Fedora 27, but the only way to install it is to install Fedora 18 and upgrade until Fedora 27. If I remember correctly installer after F18 are broken. The problem with "nouveau" driver should be fixed since kernel 4.3 with:
25d295882a1a drm/nouveau/bios: fix OF loading
I have a small VGA LCD plugged on my Pmacs and I use this kernel cmdline parameter:
video=DVI-I-1:640x480@60
But I never starts desktop session, only a console.
Thanks, Laurent
Hi, Thanks for the info!! Can I update from fedora18 to fedora 27¿? I did only one upgrade from one distro release to another, no jumping 18 to 27? How did you do it ? And what kind of boot loader uses , because im doing dd of iso image in a pen drive, but I do not know how to boot in OpenFirmware, It worked me in other distros with yaboot and ofwboot or other binaries, but not with Fedora.
Also, I want Xorg running to use as desktop to replace my old intel arch. I will test your recommendation!!

Hi,
Im trying to install Fedora 27 in my PowerPc but I can not boot it, I tested ubuntu and booted ok with yaboot, also tested openbsd and freebsd with openfirwmare boot. I saw this link https://github.com/masterzorag/G5_ppc64-linux https://github.com/masterzorag/G5_ppc64-linux but I can not replicate it or I did not understand why so many steps and why iso will not work for him.
I have problem with Nvidia driver in all tested distros... Any experience or recomendation ? Im user of Fedora about more than 8 years but I see for ppc64 some distros have less packages than others...
I have two PowerMac G5 running Fedora 27, but the only way to install it
is to install Fedora 18 and upgrade until Fedora 27. If I remember
correctly installer after F18 are broken. The problem with "nouveau"
driver should be fixed since kernel 4.3 with:
25d295882a1a drm/nouveau/bios: fix OF loading
I have a small VGA LCD plugged on my Pmacs and I use this kernel cmdline
parameter:
video=DVI-I-1:640x480@60
But I never starts desktop session, only a console.
Thanks,
Laurent

I think GRUB in F18 doesn't support PowerMac. You should use yaboot instead.
boot ud:,\ppc\chrp\yaboot
Thanks, Laurent
Ahh you mean copy files for yaboot of f18 in F27 image ?

No, booting F18 CD using yaboot instead of grub.
Then, you install F18 with yaboot bootloader, and upgrade to F26 (step by step F19 -> F20 -> ... -> F27), and at this tage you can switch the bootloader to GRUB.
Thanks, Laurent
Ahhh!! I will check because I did not found yaboot file in f18 iso, but i get you!! Thanks!!!
