It does both those things. It was the MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE() which made
the difference -- or more to the point, it was the presence of an entry
for the device in /lib/modules/`uname -r`/modules.pcimap. I thought that
only affected autoloading, but it seems to affect HAL too.
Is there a /sys/class/net/ethX/device/driver link both ways?
