Thunderbird problems on FC4
by Euan Maxwell
Hi there,
I'm having problems with thunderbird on FC4. If I try to launch it, it
just dies after a few seconds.
[root@rmac init.d]# rpm -q thunderbird
thunderbird-1.0.2-6
an strace of it running shows that it is looking for files in this directory:
[root@rmac init.d]# pwd
/usr/lib/thunderbird-1.0.2/init.d
yet, all I have in there is a README file.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail.
Here is an excerpt from the strace, any ideas would be much appreciated.
Euan.

Mac Mini Installation Issues
by Hugh Caley
I also had the problem with the partition error on initial install;
"The partition data region doesn´t occupy the entire partition"
"Attempt to read 16-18 outside of partition on /dev/sda"
I was able to get around it by firing up fdisk and writing a new
partition table before doing the installation.
After that, the installation went smoothly. However, on reboot, I only
get the flashing Mac "looking for a boot disk" graphic.
Boot with cmd-option-o-f; printenv.
boot-device /pci@f4000000/ata-6@d/disk@0:,\\:tbxi hd:,\\:tbxi

Failed X server start on Apple eMac FC4 installation
by J.M. Brough
<** Repost to the correct list! **>
During installation of FC4 test 3 the X server failed to start and I
would have to use 'linux text' to install. The monitor display was
stuck in one mode and xvidtune was unable to align the monitor output
correctly, losing approximately 2 cms of the screen on the right hand
side. I was hoping that this would not be the case for FC4 when
released.
Sadly, the same problem occurs with FC4 release (The DVD version -
stentz-dvd-ppc via bit torrent from duke.edu). Is there anything I
can do about this? Otherwise, I am unable to use Fedora.
My system is an Apple eMac with 512Mb Ram, which has the ATI 9200
with 32Mb of VRam. Using the ATI Displays program under OSX the card
is described as follows:
Card #: 109-xxxxx-00
Card Model: ATY, RV280
Vendor ID: $1002 (4098)
ROM Name: ATY, Merlin_A
ROM#: 113-xxxxx-102
FCode Version: 1.92
NDRV Version: 1.0.1f57
VRAM Size: 32MB
Why it displays 'xxxxx' for Card# and ROM# is a mystery to me.
Anyway, has anyone successfully installed FC4 on the above type
machine without losing 2 cms of their display? If so, would they
email the xorg config file for me to try. It would be most
appreciated. Using linux on the mac reminds me of using linux on the
PC about 2-3 years ago!
Cheers,
Jason.

Re: Request for Testing of Installer X Configuration on PPC
by Mike Hammill
Jeremy,
Unfortunately, the test X CD failed on my PowerMac G4 with an I/O
error from mini-wm.
PowerMac 3,3 (65, PowerMac G4 AGP Graphics)
Probing for video card: ATI Radeon 9200
Probing for monitor type: StudioDsply1
Probing for mouse type: Generic - 3 button mouse (PS/2)
Attempting to start native X server
Waiting for X server to start ... log located in /tmp/x.log
1...2...3...4...5 X server started successfully
mini-wm: Fatal IO Error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :1.0.
It might be helpful to note that the Radeon 9200 is a PCI card.
There is no card in the AGP slot. During boot, I get the message
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 1 of device 0001:11:02.0
which is the PCI address of the Radeon 9200. However, the message
does not stop the boot process.
Ubuntu works (with X on a nearly identical machine with the same
card). It also give the "Cannot allocate resource region 1 message).
Fedora Core release 3.9.2 (Pre-FC4)/kernel 2.6.11-1.1286_FC4, which I
am currently running on the machine, fails with the same message as
the X CD.
Previously, I had been running FC3 and the installation process
correctly put up X graphics, but on reboot the X server failed. I
moved off of FC3 explicitly to get LVM2 but was sad to find that one
gets a message saying you cannot configure logical volumes without a
graphics interface! A long way of saying I am REALLY looking forward
to having a working X on FC4 with the Radeon card.
Best of luck with your work!
BTW, I has not filed a bugzilla report against FC4 with the mini-wm
message. Should I do that (assuming I don't find one already filed)
or are you fielding the most recent problems via this forum?
/Mike
