Is it really a good idea to run /bin/id in scriptlets? Depending on
nsswitch configuration, couldn't this block waiting for NIS/etc lookups?
Why not just check the exit status of useradd? There is a specific
exit status for 'user already exists'.
I'm of the opinion that we should handle static IDs by just assigning
static IDs up to 500 for everything. That's orthogonal to this, though.
