introduction toogley | packaging intellij idea

Introduction ------------ Hello. I'm Tobias Angele (20 years old) and I want to contribute to fedora packaging the intellij idea package. I've made already some (really small) contributions, e.g. to debian: https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/wicd.git/log/?qt=author&q=toog… and https://github.com/AndreaCrotti/yasnippet-snippets/commits?author=toogley . Additionally, I have some experience in Java(with maven)/C#/bash/object-orientated programming, but nothing big. * Github: https://github.com/toogley * GPG Key: https://keys.fedoraproject.org/pks/lookup?search=0xf20c5878e65b3b3a&op=vind… * IRC Nick: freenode -> toogley * FAS: toogley, FPCA is signed Packaging ------------ I've found http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/rpms/intellij-idea.git/ - I guess I can base my work on the spec file there, which I'm currently trying to understand, update and build. I think the best option for me is to create a github repo for packaging in the beginning. (as you probably don't trust me :D) I have already read or am reading https://fedoramagazine.org/day-life-fedora-packager/ and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_create_an_RPM_package * Are there some important documents I should additionally read? * Do you have some tips for starting packaging, or dealing with the legacy status of the package? * I'm used to gpg-sign my git commits/tags by default. Should I continue this practice while packaging? I've read somewhere that some people don't want that, therefore my question. Thanks :)

Hi, i am working on a package review of guayadeque see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1338140 The reviewer told me to contact you because there is parlty code of wxcurl bundled in the package guayadeque. On my side, i spent already a lot of time, to package wxcurl (discussed on the FedoraForum: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=310141) but this fails. Can you help me ?

What happens when a packager goes dark?

Hi, So this packager Bernard Johnson (bjohnson) disappeared and his email (bjohnson(a)symetrix.com) is dead. "Symetrix.com" is unmaintained and the company listed in the whois "Symetrix Consulting" is nowhere to be found in the US (where bjohnson says he's located in FAS). The company behind "symetrixconsulting.com" seems unrelated and located in India. The company behind "symetrix.co" told me they have no employee by that name. So what happens in this case? I am interested in taking over the BackupPC package which needs a simple fix in EPEL7 (no one upstream seems to care about the Fedora packaging, but my company needs it). I would need a sponsor too. But again: what happens when a packager goes dark before orphaning or retiring her packages? Has this been seriously discussed? What if they get seriously ill or worse (the Fedora project is now sufficiently big and old that statistically, this could happen)? Regards, Benjamin Lefoul FAS: lef
