Is there any legal barrier for packaging Popcorn Time for Fedora?
by James Abtahi
Hi,
I'm sure many of you are aware of the fact that Popcorn Time has been
resurrected and forked into two separate projects. The software itself
(here I'm referring get-popcorn.com version) is entirely free and
open-source (GPLv3) and it has become so popular that I think we should
consider adding it to the official fedora repos. Debian considered
adding the original version to their repos but when the development got
discontinued they abandoned the idea. Now that the project has been
forked and development continued I think there is a high possibility
that it may end up there soon.
The software may or may not be legal depending on the place you live and
I was wondering if this could be a barrier for getting Popcorn TIme
accepted into official fedora repos. Please let me know what you think.
Best,
James Abtahi

FPC ticket 317
by Rich Mattes
Hi,
Can the FPC take another look at ticket 317, the Gazebo ODE bundling
issue, either in the ticket or at the next FPC meeting? The package is
just about done with the review process, and I'd like to get this ticket
resolved once and for all.
Thanks,
Rich

Retrieving the value of a macro defined in a spec file
by Jeff Peeler
I'm trying to extract a %global after it has been evaluated as it would end up
during build time. rpmspec -P almost works, but the output is stripped of all
the %global macros, so the macro is not able to be grepped. My understanding
is that I can't use eval as that does not evalute macros that are done only at
build time, which I assume is true for my spec below. I'm interested in getting
the value of release_version, but I guess the process would be the same for any
of them.
%global project_name heat
Source99: sources
%global release_version %(cat %{SOURCE99} | awk %'{sub(/%{project_name}-/, ""); sub(/.tar.gz/, ""); print $2}')
...
It would be great if there were a solution available in python, but I've not
found anything in the TransactionSet API of value. Surely this must be possible
as "fedpkg mockbuild" works as expected.

Using file system links to unbundle python packages
by Sergio Pascual
I have a pair of python packages that bundle a series of python packages
under a subpackage extern. In particular, python-astropy bundles six,
configobj, pytest and ply.
What I do is patching the source, so that instead of
from astropy.extern.six import ...
I have
from six import ...
This works for astropy itself, but other third-party packages require
astropy.extern to exist and work, i.e, its part of the API of astropy.
I have read this
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Toshio/Unbundling_Python_Modules
but before trying to implement changes, my question is: is a valid approach
to remove the bundled library and make a files ystem link to the system
library?
Thanks, Sergio
