Summary: Review Request: dnsmasq - A lightweight DHCP/caching DNS server Product: Fedora Extras Version: devel Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: normal Component: Package Review AssignedTo: bugzilla-sink@leemhuis.info ReportedBy: jima@auroralinux.org QAContact: fedora-package-review@redhat.com
Spec URL: http://beer.tclug.org/fedora-extras/dnsmasq/dnsmasq.spec SRPM URL: http://beer.tclug.org/fedora-extras/dnsmasq/dnsmasq-2.30-1.src.rpm Description: Dnsmasq is lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP server. It is designed to provide DNS and, optionally, DHCP, to a small network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of diskless machines.

------- Additional Comments From jima@auroralinux.org 2006-04-27 17:06 EST ------- The issue in Comment #1 is the result of the default configuration triggering a deprecated feature in dnsmasq. The solution the error message suggests (defining HAVE_ISC_READER) is a hack to re-enable that feature. The dnsmasq author asked me quite kindly to not enable the feature, as he'd rather not get any more users hooked on a feature which will be going away eventually.
The workaround (which you should be doing anyway) is to set dhcp-range and dhcp-leasefile in the configuration file.
I've released an update (2.30-3) which doesn't have the feature enabled, and also cleans up my slightly hacked patch situation. It should be pushed out to mirrors shortly.
