------- Additional Comments From redhat(a)nslm.org 2006-08-02 09:17 EST -------
Yes I do have Suns Java installed, however I'm a little surprised that that's
caused extra files to turn up in the MPICH /usr/lib rather than /usr/lib/mpich2

Summary: Review Request: qsynth - Qt based Fluidsynth GUI front
end
Product: Fedora Extras
Version: devel
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: normal
Component: Package Review
AssignedTo: bugzilla-sink(a)leemhuis.info
ReportedBy: nando(a)ccrma.stanford.edu
QAContact: fedora-package-review(a)redhat.com
Spec URL: http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/extras/qsynth.spec
SRPM URL: http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/extras/qsynth-0.2.5-2.src.rpm
Description: QSynth is a fluidsynth GUI front-end application written in C++ around
the Qt3 toolkit using Qt Designer. Eventually it may evolve into a
softsynth management application allowing the user to control and
manage a variety of command line softsynth but for the moment it wraps
the excellent FluidSynth. FluidSynth is a command line software
synthesiser based on the Soundfont specification.
An excellent GUI wrapper for the fluidsynth software synth. Requires fluidsynth and indirectly jack-audio-connection-kit, both of which are still waiting for approval. See:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=189886https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=183912
[second package submission, I think I still need a sponsor]

I think I know where libTraceInput is coming from now; they are truly not
present in the %files section as they don't get built. The trace_sample in
mpich2 is left out because the default Java setup in Fedora can't handle it
(I've forgotten exact details now), Mark Chappell probably has Sun's java
installed on his system.

But, when I do "cvs co ss5" as suggested into previous Comment:
"...Next you have to import into it the required branch.
(on my machine I do this)
cd extras/common
./cvs-import.sh -b FC-5 ~/rpmbuild/SRPMS/foo.src.rpm
once imported
cd ..
cvs co foo
cd foo/FC-5
make tag
make build
job done..."
CVS answer to me that ss5 doesn't exist ?!
What can I do now to build my package?

Um, possibly. What it's more likely meaning is that a the .la and .so files are
not present in the %files section

This means I've been missing a BuildRequires, can you please capture and attach
(or send me) your configure log.
Thanks.

Unless there is a *damned good reason*, there should be no .la and no .a files
packaged.
Normally, the .so is a devel file with .so.0.0.x being the runtime lib (or
something like that).
In answer to #21, the .so file would be installed to %{_libdir}/mpich2, but only
if you install the -devel file.

I was wondering more if they were actually supposed to be in /usr/lib/mpich2
with the rest of the libs?

The .la file shouldn't be there (needs to be deleted in the %install stage) and
IIRC, the .so should be in a -devel package
