Meanhwile I checked the .DEB-package with Xubuntu, here it worked
fine. So the installation package itself seems to be OK, may be
something got wrong during your installation.

I got the current runtime package, was unable to extract it directly
into the root folder.
'Unzipped' it into some folder
Used 'gksudo thunar' in the terminal to launch the file manager with
adequate permissions for the job.
Pasted the folder of openapc runtime /usr folder over to the root of my
drive
executing OpenEditor ( /usr/bin/OpenEditor ) now works.
