I really need to blog a post on this, sorry.
Multiseat is temporarily dead:
(1) The current open-source drivers do not support the multi-card
operation needed for most multiseat configurations. (A possible,
untested configuration is video-via-USB). This is due to refactoring of
the card init code between X.org and the kernel.
(2) The current NVIDIA proprietary driver does support multi-card
operation, but more poorly than the previous one -- which was fabulous
(e.g., on a 2xPCE-E + 2xPCI system, where all 4 seats worked previously,
only 1xPCI-E + 2xPCI are working with the current driver).
By 'current' do you mean 260.19.12 and what is 'the previous one'?
(3) GDM's multiseat functionality was stripped out for GDM2. It's been
patched for Sun Ray by Sun/Oracle, but this hasn't been tested for
multiseat.
GDM2 must mean
http://packages.debian.org/sid/gdm3 in Debian.
(4) ConsoleKit, PulseAudio, and other pieces need to be adapted for
multiseat operation.
Basically, (1)/(2) are blockers; if/when they are cleared, we can make
pretty rapid progress on (3) and (4).
