DR.
PHILIP CHAN
Dr
Chans experience gained from the construction industry
started when he began working in 1979 in the contracts
section of the Housing Development Board (HDB) of Singapore.
He had graduated from the Singapore Polytechnic with a
diploma in building. He had also worked in both Singapore
and international QS consultant firms and contracting
companies in both Singapore and Brunei before he pursued his
law studies in UK.
He was
called to the English Bar and to the Supreme Court of
Singapore. He worked briefly in the legal department of HDB
and in the law firm of Donaldson and Burkinshaw before
joining the ranks of those in academia. He was teaching at
Ngee Ann Polytechnic in the Business Studies Department for
three years before settling in the Department of Building,
National University of Singapore, in 1991 and he has stayed
put since then. He continued his practice as a lawyer and
had a law firm until recently. Nevertheless, he still acts
as an arbitrator and sits in the hearings of the Strata
Titles Board. He has been recently appointed as a member of
the Council for Estate Agents (CEA) Board of Appeal.
