A group of interested people gathered today to discuss breathing some
new life into Fedora Weekly News (minutes below). What we concluded was
that we'd actually like to breathe some life into Insight and for FWN to
become an arm of that. To expound, here's the proposal:
- suehle, jbrooks, and iambryan have volunteered as editors
- We'd like to expand Insight to be more blog, web-magazine-style with:
- Short, informative content like you might think of FWN for
- Longer form stories, interviews, and articles
- The technical content that Fedora used to create to some extent
for Red Hat Magazine (which is in high demand but no longer exists)
- Cultivated content from Planet
- The content that Insight was already meant for, like Board
meeting minutes or announcements
- Fedora Weekly News would then become the weekly email newsletter of
highlights from what had been published on Insight that week.
- We'd like to see at least two writers/cultivators-of-content per beat
What we're looking for now is for someone to shout, "good idea!", "bad
idea!", or "I was already halfway through with something like that!"
before we continue down the path. "I'd like to help with a beat!" is
also a good answer. :-)
Thanks!
Ruth

Big thanks to everyone who joined us today. I hope to keep seeing you
(and everyone who wasn't able to make it today!) at more meetings.
General summary:
- bogomil is going to be organizing a team for the*"I am 18"* campaign.
Keep an eye out for an email from him about it.
- graphite6 (Sarah) and I will be trying to track down current owners of
*Fedora social media* accounts and organizing a team to put some life
into that.
- jreznik and graphite6 will be working on the *SOPs*. If you'd like to
participate, please do. There are many in this list that haven't
actually been written: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Marketing_SOPs
- Many of us will be working on creating some*new brochures* specific to
languages for use at events where they're appropriate. If you're
interested in participating, please send a message to the list with what
language you'd like to work on content for. We're aiming to have a first
draft of content for them by December 14.

We were able to get through 14 of the 52 proposed blocker bugs and none
of the 23 proposed NTH bugs in today's review meeting, so there will be
another continuation of this meeting.
I'll see if I can gather enough people for a meeting tomorrow otherwise,
we might hold off until Monday after the QA meeting.

* 1 Accepted NTH (tflink, 17:12:42)
* The meeting will be capped at 3 hours. If we are not done by then,

* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876716 (tflink,
17:17:04)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, NEW (tflink, 17:17:04)
* AGREED: 876716 - It seems as if more people are hitting this than
show up on the bug but we still don't have a reliable reproducing
case or debug info - will wait on decision in case either one of
those things is found and revisit later. (tflink, 17:23:27)
* (869424) RuntimeError: Error running systemctl: No such file or

* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, ASSIGNED (tflink, 17:23:41)
* AGREED: 869424 - This needs to be re-tested with latest anaconda in

17:34:28)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, NEW (tflink, 17:34:28)
* AGREED: 880263 - AcceptedBlocker - Violates the following F18 alpha
release criterion for systems using LVM on mpath: "The installer
must boot and run on all primary architectures, with all system
firmware types that are common on those architectures, from default
live image, DVD, and boot.iso install media ..." (tflink, 17:58:07)

17:58:18)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, ASSIGNED (tflink, 17:58:18)
* AGREED: 876218 - AcceptedBlocker - Violates the following F18
release criterion for reboots during/after NFSISO based installs:
"Any installation method or process designed to run unattended must
do so (there should be no prompts requiring user intervention)"
(tflink, 18:20:43)
* (875599) anaconda keeping error status after Change the installation
source to point to a custom HTTP/FTP repository (tflink, 18:20:49)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=875599 (tflink,
18:20:52)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, NEW (tflink, 18:20:55)
* AGREED: 875599 - RejectedBlocker, AcceptedNTH - While this is a
problem with a rather non-intuitive solution, it doesn't clearly
violate any of the F18 release criteria. A well-tested fix would be
considered after freeze. (tflink, 18:32:08)
* (858628) Some buttons and labels in Anaconda can't be localized
(tflink, 18:32:24)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=858628 (tflink,
18:32:25)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, NEW (tflink, 18:32:25)
* AGREED: 858628 - AcceptedBlocker - Prevents translation of some
strings in the installer and thus violates the following F18 final
release criterion: "All critical path actions on release-blocking
desktop environments should correctly display all sufficiently
complete translations available for use" (tflink, 18:37:01)
* (875477) ValueError: name already in use (tflink, 18:37:14)

points to partitions of any specified size using most commonly-used
filesystem types ..." (tflink, 18:44:30)
* (876547) ValueError: ('invalid size specification', '-472.028417969

* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876547 (tflink,
18:44:51)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, NEW (tflink, 18:44:54)
* AGREED: 876547 - At this point, there aren't enough debug logs or
reproducers to make a call on blocker status, will revisit when
there is more available information and more tests done. (tflink,
18:58:25)
* (873293) custom storage ui fails to create lvm unless all disks have
free space (tflink, 18:58:37)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=873293 (tflink,
18:58:40)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, ASSIGNED (tflink, 18:58:42)
* AGREED: 873293 - RejectedBlocker, AceptedNTH - This isn't a crash
but it would be nice if the installer had a clearer error message to
identify the cause of this issue, it is recoverable. Rejected as a
blocker for F18 final but a tested fix would be considered past
freeze. (tflink, 19:14:05)
* (876789) FormatDestroyError: error wiping old signatures from
/dev/md/Volume0_0p2: 1 (tflink, 19:14:29)

* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, NEW (tflink, 19:19:51)
* AGREED: 879612 - AcceptedBlocker - Violates the following F18 final
release criteria for using a local iso as an installation source:
"The installer must be able to use all supported local and remote
package source options" (tflink, 19:27:03)
* (879610) SystemError: (32, 'umount: /run/install/isodir: target is

is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1))') (tflink, 19:27:42)

* AGREED: 879610 - AcceptedBlocker - Violates the following F18 final
release criteria for using a local iso as an installation source:
"The installer must be able to use all supported local and remote
package source options" (tflink, 19:31:37)
* (869978) %packages --default doesn't install default system, but

* ACTION: kparal to start thread on test@ about a possible new
kickstart release criterion (tflink, 19:47:28)
* AGREED: 869978 - While this doesn't hit any of the current F18
release criteria, there is discussion about adding a new release
criterion to cover a subset of kickstart options. Will re-visit
after discussion on test@ (tflink, 19:50:05)
* (864087) wired ethernet defaults to Off in certain situations
(tflink, 19:50:15)

* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, NEW (tflink, 19:50:15)
* AGREED: 864087 - RejectedBlocker, AcceptedNTH - While this can be
nonintuitive to discover and figure out post-install, it doesn't
directly violate any F18 release criterion and could be fixed
post-install. If it turns out that this affects lives pre-install,
please re-propose as a blocker (tflink, 19:57:13)
* Hit the 3 hour mark, stopping the review meeting (tflink, 19:57:40)
* Next Review Meeting (tflink, 19:57:55)

Meeting summary
---------------
* Roll Call (tflink, 17:03:21)
* Introduction (tflink, 17:13:01)
* Our purpose in this meeting is to review proposed blocker and
nice-to-have bugs and decide whether to accept them, and to monitor
the progress of fixing existing accepted blocker and nice-to-have
bugs. (tflink, 17:13:50)
* We'll be following the process outlined at: (tflink, 17:13:57)
* LINK: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:SOP_Blocker_Bug_Meeting

* The bugs up for review today are available at: (tflink, 17:14:02)

(tflink, 17:14:10)
* Up for review today, there are: (tflink, 17:14:27)
* 4 Proposed Blockers (tflink, 17:14:33)
* 8 Accepted Blockers (tflink, 17:14:33)
* 1 Proposed NTH (tflink, 17:14:33)
* 22 Accepted NTH (tflink, 17:14:33)
* (878225) unlock of VG w/ multiple encrypted PVs in custom leads to
traceback (tflink, 17:15:50)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=878225 (tflink,
17:15:53)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, MODIFIED (tflink, 17:15:55)
* AGREED: 878225 - RejectedBlocker (beta) - This doesn't clearly hit
any of the F18 beta release criterion and seems to be outside the
most common paths - this doesn't prevent installs on the machine and
thus, rejected as blocker (tflink, 17:24:27)
* (875942) KeyError: None (tflink, 17:25:32)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=875942 (tflink,
17:25:33)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, MODIFIED (tflink, 17:25:33)
* AGREED: 875942 - RejectedBlocker (beta) - This doesn't clearly hit
any of the F18 beta release criteria and seems to be outside the
most common paths - this doesn't prevent installs on affected
machines and thus is rejected as a blocker for F18 beta. (tflink,
17:31:02)
* (878967) Installation fails when selecting german language (tflink,
17:31:31)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=878967 (tflink,
17:31:31)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, NEW (tflink, 17:31:31)
* LINK: http://fpaste.org/UE5w (adamw, 17:34:09)
* LINK: http://94.247.144.115/anaconda.png (tflink, 17:36:54)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=864622 seems to be
a change related to man pages (drago01, 18:09:30)
* may be related to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=569392
(tflink, 18:20:59)
* LINK: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=4713781
(drago01, 18:24:07)
* AGREED: 878967 - This could be a blocker but it needs more triage to
figure out exactly what's going on and if other languages are
affected. Will re-visit once more information is available.
(tflink, 18:32:15)
* (877871) KeyError: None (tflink, 18:33:58)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=877871 (tflink,
18:33:58)
* Proposed NTH, anaconda, ASSIGNED (tflink, 18:33:58)
* AGREED: 877871 - RejectedNTH - This seems like a rather non-standard
use case and avoidable enough to not take a fix past freeze.
(tflink, 18:38:31)
* (878959) firewall-config can't set permanent rule (tflink, 18:38:40)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=878959 (tflink,
18:38:40)
* Proposed NTH, firewalld, MODIFIED (tflink, 18:38:41)
* AGREED: 878959 - RejectedNTH - This could be fixed with an update
and thus, does not need to be pulled in past freeze and does not
qualify for NTH status. (tflink, 18:43:15)
* (868755) rsync error handling - UEFI and live installs without enough
space (tflink, 18:43:50)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=868755 (tflink,
18:43:54)
* Accepted Blocker, anaconda, MODIFIED (tflink, 18:43:56)
* this has been tested with RC1 and appears to have been fixed
(tflink, 18:44:42)
* move to VERIFIED (tflink, 18:44:48)
* (872047) fedup-dracut builds do not exist in F18 (tflink, 18:45:10)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=872047 (tflink,
18:45:10)
* Accepted Blocker, fedup-dracut, ON_QA (tflink, 18:45:10)
* builds exist in updates-testing and were pulled into RC1 (tflink,
18:45:24)
* builds need testing and karma (tflink, 18:45:32)
* (873459) Upgraded system does not reboot if a kernel upgrade is part
of the upgrade (tflink, 18:47:10)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=873459 (tflink,
18:47:13)
* Accepted Blocker, fedup-dracut, ON_QA (tflink, 18:47:16)
* this appears to have been fixed from limited testing (tflink,
18:48:30)
* it will be moved to VERIFIED if more detailed/varied testing holds
up (tflink, 18:48:45)
* (876366) New kernel copies its args from the Upgrade System entry
(tflink, 18:48:57)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876366 (tflink,
18:48:57)

* LINK: https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/975 (tflink, 18:55:00)
* LINK: https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/974 also needs input. ;)
(nirik, 18:58:14)

The minutes below are fairly sparse in content. The meeting itself was
very brief, so feel free to look in the full logs. A summary on F18
beta is "we're in fairly decent shape. Testing and karma for the
kernels in updates-testing are always appreciated."

19:04:33 <skvidal> we have code in the git repo now and I'm doing tests on the backend in euca now
19:04:50 <skvidal> hopefully slavek will have some good stuff for us next week for the front end, he's been sick :(
19:05:11 <nirik> #info docs update for fedocal - pingou
19:05:21 * relrod_school is still working on php-fas though this week has been pretty hectic school-wise, and I've been offline more than I'd like.

19:06:02 <skvidal> nirik: yep and its on openshift atm
19:06:17 <nirik> ah, ok.
19:06:17 <SmootherFrOgZ> I did work on couple defect task from FAS preparing a new release but I don't think it will hit prod before security FAD
19:06:38 <SmootherFrOgZ> there are some already pushed to master, etc
19:06:46 <nirik> SmootherFrOgZ: will you be able to help out remote on the 2 factor fas work at the fad?
19:07:07 <SmootherFrOgZ> sure, I be there remotely
19:07:11 <SmootherFrOgZ> will*
19:07:16 <nirik> excellent.
19:07:21 <threebean> I never got that zeromq3 stuff into production like I said I would last week. Gonna wait now until the freeze is up again.
19:07:30 <nirik> fair enough.
19:07:43 <nirik> #info zeromq3 will go to production after freeze.
19:07:57 <threebean> But i released fedmsg-0.6.0 today with a bunch of goodies. A fedmsg-announce command for admins, a fedmsg-twitter daemon, and some new authz stuff.
19:08:08 <nirik> FYI, I pushed a security update for cgit to all our cgit using hosts this morning. Thanks to lmacken for seeing it. ;)

19:09:19 <nirik> ok, any other application / development news ?
19:10:12 <nirik> lmacken / threebean: You want to mention the outreach for women internship thing? Is that mostly devel tasks?
19:10:54 <threebean> oh right.
19:11:00 <lmacken> http://gnome.org/opw
19:11:09 <lmacken> some devel, some devops tasks

19:11:23 <nirik> cool.
19:11:32 * nirik hopes it gets some good uptake.
19:11:48 <threebean> Already got one person asking to volunteer on cleaning up the packages webapp
19:11:58 <lmacken> and fedbages
19:12:06 <threebean> cool

19:13:23 <nirik> #topic Sysadmin status / discussion
19:13:33 <nirik> Any exciting sysadmin news this week or upcoming?
19:13:54 <pingou> cgit update you said :)
19:14:04 <nirik> I'm considering moving collab03 to collab01/02 pair on thanksgiving. ;) It takes about 10 hours to sync...
19:14:08 <smooge> budgets
19:14:14 <skvidal> nirik: umm. seriously?
19:14:14 <nirik> and really no one should be posting on thanksgiving to lists. ;)
19:14:21 <pingou> skvidal: exciting ?
19:14:23 <skvidal> nirik: you're going to move them during a holiday?
19:14:28 <pingou> err, I meant smooge
19:14:36 <skvidal> nirik: let me know in advance so I can turn off my phone
19:14:53 <nirik> skvidal: sure, since it should just be 'start rsync, go eat and relax, change dns, profit' ?
19:15:04 <skvidal> nirik: what is the key word in your sentence there?
19:15:04 <nirik> skvidal: I'm open to ideas on how to make the sync shorter.
19:15:16 <skvidal> nirik: 'should'
19:15:17 <skvidal> :)
19:15:32 <nirik> it's 82GB of mail archives and exploded mail posts.
19:15:50 <skvidal> okie doke
19:15:57 <smooge> hmmm I wonder how long it would take to cut it to a USB key run the key to the other system and copy off :)
19:15:59 * SmootherFrOgZ notices some scripts we're using on hostedxx are not up-to-date. will take care of them
19:16:01 <nirik> sure. I guess I can do it some other time, I just thought it might be good to get out of the way then
19:16:34 <nirik> SmootherFrOgZ: oh? what scripts?
19:17:16 <SmootherFrOgZ> scripts to setup scm repo, hosted project. there are some obsolete links (such as gnome-git-mail-blalbla)
19:17:45 <nirik> smooge: yeah, I think we just keep plugging away on budgets. There's 2 outstanding things I think now... a) quote for a bc02 replacement and b) I need to talk to qa and find out how many machines they really need.
19:18:15 <nirik> SmootherFrOgZ: we never had a script to setup scm/project. ;) Or you mean the one that adds trac? relrod was working on a app to make hosted projects.
19:18:42 <SmootherFrOgZ> ha, cool then.
19:19:00 <SmootherFrOgZ> well, we did use script one time.
19:20:06 <nirik> a script/app would be great... if you want to check with relrod you can help work on it I'm sure. ;)
19:20:26 <SmootherFrOgZ> like, gitsetup.sh (kinda old)
19:20:42 <SmootherFrOgZ> sure thing.
19:20:44 <threebean> https://fedorahosted.org/fedorahosted/
19:20:44 <pingou> https://github.com/CodeBlock/fedorahosted
19:21:00 <nirik> :)
19:21:21 <relrod_school> yep ^ that has both the flask app and the CLI to it.
19:22:07 <nirik> any other sysadmin news? We do have a few new machines on the way (hopefully)... a pair to replace sign-vault02 with (we have had hardware problems with it in the past), and a virthost. Also, at some point we will be getting some arm secondary arch stuff to add to the qa/community network.
19:22:36 * relrod_school sighs and just noticed a spam ticket on that fedorahosted/fedorahosted trac.
19:23:01 <nirik> #topic Private Cloud status update
19:23:17 <nirik> ok, so I decided to try cloudstack on our evens cloudlet this week...
19:23:17 <skvidal> euca cloudlet has a number of active instances on it
19:23:21 <skvidal> sorry
19:23:23 <skvidal> go ahead
19:23:45 <nirik> it's setup, but network is not working. I am exchanging emails with some cloudstack folks to try and track down the issue.
19:24:20 <nirik> I'll give it until next week, then probibly redo openstack on it...
19:24:28 <nirik> or just decide to drop it all into euca and get further on toward production.
19:24:35 <skvidal> nirik: so here's an idea
19:24:49 <skvidal> nirik: what if you setup euca on the evens cloudlet?
19:24:57 <skvidal> nirik: and compared the setup
19:25:06 <skvidal> nirik: also as a verification of what I setup on the odds?
19:25:06 <nirik> as a seperate instance/cloud?
19:25:13 <nirik> sure, could do that.
19:25:24 <skvidal> is there any thing in folsom
19:25:30 <skvidal> which is lacking for us to take that to production?
19:25:37 <skvidal> vlans?
19:25:46 <nirik> yeah, I need to mess with the new networking/vlans.
19:25:56 <skvidal> that's cinder, right?
19:26:04 <nirik> quantum. ;)
19:26:08 <skvidal> ah, sorry
19:26:10 <skvidal> what's cinder?
19:26:13 <nirik> cinder is the new storage thingie.
19:26:20 <skvidal> ah - sorry
19:26:28 <skvidal> I get the names confused
19:26:28 <nirik> no worries, there's too many codenames. ;)
19:27:01 <smooge> and they will change next release too
19:27:03 <skvidal> so if you'd rather not setup euca - then alternatively more openstack testing and enhancing for what we would need to do to make it production
19:27:17 <skvidal> the reason I was thinking of the euca setup
19:27:27 <skvidal> is to maybe spend more time on bfebs
19:27:30 <nirik> I kinda like the idea of diversity, and I think openstack will work for our production needs with some more work
19:27:38 <skvidal> sounds fair
19:28:00 <skvidal> speaking of production.
19:28:11 <skvidal> is there anyone who needs more instructions/help for using the euca cloudlet?
19:28:20 <skvidal> or for setting up an instance?
19:28:28 <skvidal> I know I have to reconnect with pingou
19:28:30 <skvidal> on the jenkins master
19:28:47 <skvidal> and to making fedocal a persistent ip
19:29:09 <nirik> I should make a persistent one just for grins to make sure, but I thought it looked pretty easy
19:29:09 * pingou likes
19:29:27 <SmootherFrOgZ> skvidal: we're using ansible to deal with new instance, right?
19:29:33 * herlo likes too
19:29:41 <nirik> so, do we want to discuss any of https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure_private_cloud#Moving_to_.22pr…
19:29:42 <smooge> I still need to go through the instructions you put out. I have it at #5 on my todo list
19:29:54 <skvidal> SmootherFrOgZ: we are
19:30:14 <skvidal> SmootherFrOgZ: and I've written instructions on doing that on an adhoc basis in the ansible repo
19:30:25 <skvidal> if anyone wants a relatively trivial programming task
19:30:36 <skvidal> the cron-runner for ansible needs to be fleshed out
19:30:37 <abadger1999> skvidal: Are there instructions/do we have persistent storage for our euca cloud?
19:30:41 <skvidal> so it will handle playbooks nicely
19:30:41 <SmootherFrOgZ> nod. anyone from syadmin has acces to it or?
19:30:43 <skvidal> abadger1999: I believe so.
19:30:45 <SmootherFrOgZ> skvidal: awesome
19:30:47 <abadger1999> Cool.
19:30:52 <skvidal> abadger1999: let me verify
19:31:01 <SmootherFrOgZ> nirik: we can
19:31:07 <abadger1999> skvidal: I'll look for it later to setup an elections dev box for fchiulli
19:31:29 <pingou> abadger1999: I had flask elections running on the fedocal box at some point
19:31:34 <skvidal> abadger1999: so.... okay - the instructions are in the euca notes - but not in the ansible repo
19:31:46 <pingou> abadger1999: I can do that again (unless you want to play w/ ansible of course :))
19:31:47 <skvidal> abadger1999: I will augment them with the proper sudo-ish ness etc
19:31:59 <skvidal> abadger1999: and an example of auto-attaching drives is in the copr-be playbook
19:32:07 <abadger1999> skvidal: Thanks!
19:32:19 <abadger1999> pingou: I want to play with ansible :-)
19:32:30 <pingou> abadger1999: fair enough :)
19:33:44 <nirik> skvidal: so, say I setup openstack again and get it to where euca2ools work against it nicely (which I already did have last time I set it up :) how do we determine which cloudlet we should run something on? random? based on capacity?
19:34:04 <skvidal> nirik: sure...
19:34:13 <skvidal> nirik: we could make any sort of arbitrary rule
19:34:25 <skvidal> we could make euca disposable-instances - using instance-backed
19:34:36 <skvidal> and openstack persistent instances - using volume-backed
19:34:43 <skvidal> or we could make them based on projects or users?
19:34:55 <skvidal> nirik: I'm open to whatever
19:34:58 <nirik> ok. just something to think about, we don't need to decide right away.
19:35:02 <skvidal> and if we decide we don't need diversity anymore
19:35:11 <skvidal> I'm also fine with just reducing us down to a single cloud software
19:35:25 <nirik> yeah, that also has some advantages sure.
19:35:31 <SmootherFrOgZ> +1
19:35:33 <skvidal> afaict the code I've written for ansible or the euca2ools is portable to both cloud instances
19:35:40 <skvidal> so it shouldn't require any porting
19:35:51 <skvidal> important words of note here
19:35:55 <skvidal> 'SHOULD NOT'
19:35:58 <skvidal> doesn't mean it won't ;)
19:36:14 <skvidal> but I've tried to be careful to not rely on any specific apis
19:36:24 <nirik> yeah, I think it should just be plug and play.
19:36:36 <nirik> but we will surely have to see what the world has in store for us
19:36:37 <skvidal> if, however, we opt to go to openstack wholey
19:36:46 <skvidal> then I'd think moving to nova-client and the api might be helpful
19:37:01 <skvidal> I've done some work against nova's client too - and it's not complicated to code against
19:37:38 <nirik> yeah, might give us better/different info.
19:37:49 <nirik> but we can burn that cloud when we come to it.
19:38:05 <nirik> any other cloud news/comments/ideas?
19:38:09 <skvidal> nirik: :)
19:38:28 <skvidal> nirik: one more comment
19:38:47 <skvidal> a good reason to stick with ec2-compat api is that as of right now fedora/red hat doesn't have a rax account
19:38:55 <skvidal> so if we ever wanted to move to public cloud for any reason
19:39:01 <nirik> yeah, good point.
19:39:02 <skvidal> and we were bound up in openstack's api
19:39:07 <skvidal> it would be difficult
19:39:23 <skvidal> that's all I had
19:39:36 <nirik> ok.
19:39:38 <nirik> #topic Security FAD update
19:39:48 <nirik> FAD is coming up soonly.
19:39:57 <nirik> any more planning or prelim stuff we can get done before then?
19:40:13 <abadger1999> the fas prelim could definitely use more work.
19:40:35 <abadger1999> I haven't had time in the past week but I'll see if I can do something if no one else does.
19:40:51 <skvidal> abadger1999: what sort of prelim do we need?
19:41:06 <nirik> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_Infrastructure_Security_2012/FAS_plan
19:41:13 <abadger1999> Just making the https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_Infrastructure_Security_2012/FAS_plan more organized, broken down.
19:41:25 <skvidal> ah
19:41:35 <abadger1999> make some separate solid tasks that we can hand to different people independently.
19:41:37 <abadger1999> things like that.
19:41:38 <smooge> People going should start making blog posts about it starting next week
19:41:54 <smooge> I will be emailing reminders about that today
19:42:55 <nirik> yeah, I figure we get setup, we appoint/find someone to be IRC interface for remote folks, we do a bit of overview from mricon / others, we discuss policy decisions, then perhaps break into smaller teams... implement the pam side, the fas side, packaging if we need any, docs, etc.
19:43:09 <nirik> we can implement in stg first.
19:43:35 <nirik> also, beta release is scheduled for that morning, so we need to make sure we keep watch on that.
19:43:47 <smooge> I figure I could do those parts
19:43:52 <skvidal> abadger1999: are we planning on doing it against staging first - or do we want to dummy-up some systems in the cloudlets?
19:43:59 <smooge> an eye and IRC interface
19:44:02 <nirik> do we have idea on airport->hotel transport?
19:44:14 <abadger1999> I'd be fine doing it against staging.
19:44:22 <abadger1999> all te people that normally touch stg will be there I think.
19:44:32 <abadger1999> so it's okay if we make that environment unusable.
19:44:41 <smooge> nirik, as much as I would like ot believe we will be out of freeze that morning... I expect staging will be frozen
19:44:50 <nirik> well, threebean and lmacken won't be... but hopefully we will not disrupt them too much.
19:45:04 <nirik> smooge: staging is never frozen. ;)
19:45:04 <skvidal> nirik: it looks like it is only a few pickups
19:45:16 <nirik> but yeah, we could well slip again...
19:45:18 <abadger1999> dummying up systems always has the problem of "where do we get our fake data"?
19:45:21 <nirik> we will just see and handle it...
19:45:37 <abadger1999> since it's fas and we want to protect the production data a little better.
19:45:42 <skvidal> nirik: I'll be adding everyone's flight to my calendar and I'll see about making it all work :)
19:46:09 * skvidal wonders if nb went out of his way to find an inconvenient flight
19:46:14 <skvidal> 9:45am :(
19:46:16 <nirik> skvidal: cool. I think smooge will be there with car too?
19:46:20 <smooge> nirik, about travel.. I plan to drive up and be in RDU by noon on Monday to get my ID and such.
19:46:48 <nirik> oh, do we want to assign roomies? or just do it as people arrive/checkin?
19:46:49 <smooge> I can get there earlier if needed but it is a 4->5 hour drive from SC to RDU
19:47:03 <skvidal> herlo: when are you getting in?
19:47:28 <skvidal> nirik: I think I can just ferry people from the airport w/o too much trouble starting around 2 or so on monday
19:47:38 <nirik> skvidal: ok, great!
19:47:45 <abadger1999> I get in late so I should either room with a heavy sleeper or someone who plans on staying up late despite jet lag :-)
19:47:46 <skvidal> eunice won't need the car on monday anyway, I don't think
19:47:49 <nirik> #info skvidal to pick up folks from airport.
19:48:07 <skvidal> I'll just email everyone directly
19:48:14 <skvidal> and confirm times and if they are not planning on renting a car
19:48:16 <abadger1999> Will we need more cars on thursday to ferry people back to the airport?
19:48:32 <nirik> abadger1999: I'm a deep sleeper, but I snore... (or so I have been told, I'm asleep at the time)
19:48:33 <skvidal> which hotel is it again?
19:49:19 <nirik> Marriott ?
19:49:22 <skvidal> the Raleigh MArriott
19:49:25 * skvidal calls them
19:49:32 <SmootherFrOgZ> what's time should we jump in for remote people?
19:50:09 <abadger1999> I was going to rent a car on thursday... Could go in with the first airport trip and rent one if we need more vehicles.. otherwise I'll go in with the last trip and just leave town from RDU.
19:50:10 <nirik> SmootherFrOgZ: I'd say we can hang out in #fedora-fad anytime starting monday ?
19:51:02 <nirik> (not this coming monday, the one after)
19:51:08 <SmootherFrOgZ> k.
19:51:14 <SmootherFrOgZ> yeah, i know
19:51:17 <skvidal> so thursday will need to be orchestrated a bit
19:51:29 <skvidal> and I think some people will need to find their own way back to the airport
19:51:31 * SmootherFrOgZ will have time to do to gym :)
19:51:34 <SmootherFrOgZ> go*
19:52:47 <nirik> ok, I'm sure we will figure it out. ;)
19:52:54 <smooge> I figured I would be ferrying people on Thursday
19:52:55 <nirik> anything else on fad planning?
19:53:47 <nirik> #topic Upcoming Tasks/Items
19:53:49 <relrod_school> abadger1999: poke me next week sometime and I'll help with organizing the FAS Plan

19:54:19 <nirik> anything else we need to schedule or note?
19:54:29 <nirik> oh yeah, I need to add the phx2 outage on dec 15th
19:55:06 <nirik> they are saying it should be 5min or so now of outage.
19:55:22 <nirik> so, not a big deal, but we should have a longer window and be ready in case it goes long
19:56:00 <nirik> also, need to schedule the collab move if I am going to do that...
19:56:19 <relrod_school> should just be a matter of shut up nagios and pull phx from dns for that block of time, right? Or are there other things to do to prepare for that?
19:56:55 <nirik> relrod_school: yeah for a short outage... longer term we might need to copy off wiki data or setup a fas db somewhere or other more difficult things.
19:57:04 <smooge> well I would just shut up nagios. Pulling phx out of dns is not easy since everything kind of talks to it
19:57:18 <nirik> well, we can pull proxy01 out so it gets no direct hits.
19:57:28 <relrod_school> smooge: yeah, just from the roundrobin rotation
19:57:50 <nirik> anyhow, if it's just 5min it won't be too big a deal.
19:57:50 * LoKoMurdoK here
19:57:57 <relrod_school> cool.
19:58:26 <nirik> ok, any more scheduling stuff?
19:58:35 <nirik> #topic Open Floor
19:58:36 <smooge> not fo rme

19:58:51 <abadger1999> pingou: yay!
19:58:58 <pingou> abadger1999: yup :)
19:58:58 <nirik> excellent. :)
19:59:16 <pingou> SmootherFrOgZ: as well, but you already know him :)
20:00:43 <nirik> after holidays we should make sure there's no infra stuff we need to do for fudcon... ie, help with streaming or whatever
20:00:55 <nirik> anyhow, thanks for coming everyone!

given) (tflink, 17:11:17)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=875393 (tflink,
17:11:20)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, VERIFIED (tflink, 17:11:23)
* AGREED: 875393 - AcceptedBlocker - Violates the following F18 alpha
release criterion for machines without a working network connection
at boot time: "The installer must boot and run on all primary
architectures, with all system firmware types that are common on
those architectures ..." (tflink, 17:16:19)
* (876180) KeyError: None (tflink, 17:16:28)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876180 (tflink,
17:16:28)
* Proposed Blocker, anaconda, ASSIGNED (tflink, 17:16:28)
* AGREED: 876180 - RejectedBlocker AcceptedNTH - This doesn't clearly
hit any release criteria for F18 beta but fixing installer crashes
is preferred - a tested fix would be considered past freeze
(tflink, 17:26:55)
* (876366) New kernel copies its args from the Upgrade System entry
(tflink, 17:27:04)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876366 (tflink,
17:27:04)
* Proposed Blocker, fedup-dracut, NEW (tflink, 17:27:04)
* AGREED: 876366 - AcceptedBlocker - This is relatively common and not
difficult to reproduce - violates the following F18 beta release
criterion: "... it must be possible to successfully complete an
upgrade from a fully updated installation of the previous stable
Fedora release with that package set installed, using any officially
recommended upgrade mechanisms. The upgraded system must meet all
release criteria." (tflink, 17:34:24)

17:34:32)
* Proposed Blocker, kernel, NEW (tflink, 17:34:32)

any of the F18 beta release criterion and could be fixed by an
update. (tflink, 17:37:12)
* (876655) Lorax does not support building initramfs for fedup (tflink,
17:38:36)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876655 (tflink,
17:38:36)
* Proposed Blocker, lorax, NEW (tflink, 17:38:36)
* AGREED: 876655 - AcceptedBlocker - This prevents fedup from doing
network upgrades and violates the following F18 beta release
criterion: "... it must be possible to successfully complete an
upgrade from a fully updated installation of the previous stable
Fedora release with that package set installed, using any officially
recommended upgrade mechanisms. The upgraded system must meet all
release criteria." (tflink, 17:44:38)

(tflink, 17:48:21)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=875474 (tflink,
17:48:21)
* Proposed Blocker, plymouth, NEW (tflink, 17:48:21)
* AGREED: 875474 - We need more information on whether or not
rebuilding the initramfs fixes the issue described here before
deciding on blocker status (tflink, 18:03:30)
* (874265) Installation Options screen is too wide for 1024x768 display
in German (tflink, 18:07:05)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=874265 (tflink,
18:07:08)
* Proposed NTH, anaconda, VERIFIED (tflink, 18:07:10)
* AGREED: 874265 - AcceptedNTH - This is a minor translation and
display issue and leads to better usability - a tested fix would be
considered past freeze (tflink, 18:11:04)
* (874753) Can't change keyboard layout in GDM by default (tflink,
18:11:19)
* LINK: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=874753 (tflink,
18:11:19)
* Proposed NTH, control-center, NEW (tflink, 18:11:19)
* we were unable to come to a conclusion on this bug - stuck at +2/-2
NTH. Will revisit when more people are present (tflink, 18:35:52)

18:36:04)
* Proposed NTH, gnome-shell, NEW (tflink, 18:36:07)
* AGREED: 874761 - RejectedNTH - This doesn't hit any common use cases
for live images, has a relatively simple workaround and could be
fixed with an update - rejected as NTH for F18 beta. (tflink,
18:45:26)
* (876258) mate files in updates-testing need to be NTH - MATE install
does not work in DVD (tflink, 18:47:31)

18:47:34)
* Proposed NTH, mate-desktop, NEW (tflink, 18:47:37)

18:51:49)
* Proposed NTH, xorg-x11-drv-nouveau, NEW (tflink, 18:51:52)
* AGREED: 847479 - RejectedNTH - It isn't clear that this affects F18,
is unlikely to affect live images and could be fixed with an update

18:01:33 <pjones> morning.
18:01:51 * limburgher here
18:02:02 <mitr> Hello
18:02:28 * notting is here
18:02:37 * jreznik is lurking
18:02:47 <mmaslano> let' start
18:03:10 <mmaslano> .fesco #963
18:03:10 <zodbot> mmaslano: Error: '#963' is not a valid integer.
18:03:20 <mmaslano> #topic #963 change of names of configuration files
18:03:30 <pjones> .fesco 963
18:03:30 <mmaslano> .fesco 963

18:03:34 <zodbot> mmaslano: #963 (change of names of configuration files) – FESCo - https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/963
18:03:42 <mmaslano> mjg59: could you help michal or Kay?
18:03:45 <mjg59> Yeah
18:03:52 <mjg59> Sorry, hadn't really been online much for the past week
18:03:58 <mjg59> I'll follow up on that
18:03:58 <mmaslano> sure, thanks
18:04:21 <mitr> They could just unpack/analyze rawhide themselves I'd expect..
18:05:50 <mmaslano> any proposal? I would be fine with mjg's help
18:06:07 <mitr> if mjg59 wants to help, I'm completely fine
18:06:11 <nirik> proposal: defer for now and see if mjg59 can get them access to the info they seek
18:06:13 <mmaslano> but it should be done before freeze if there are broken packages
18:06:43 <mitr> mmaslano: We already froze for Beta
18:06:50 <mmaslano> yes
18:07:05 <notting> well, packages have been 'broken' inasmuch as there were two configuration files for two releases already. what is the plan if the work mjg59 is helping kay with does not happen?
18:07:20 <nirik> if there are pending fixes we could pass them thru the freeze as a NTH... or wait until after.
18:07:41 <t8m> As the breakage is not critical I think that the fixes can be done in updates
18:08:03 <mmaslano> so for now I agree with nirik's proposal
18:08:22 <mitr> notting: We are not currently equipped to handle that question AFAICT. (We do need to be, but that's for another time.)
18:08:57 * nirik shrugs. I don't think I would block on it.
18:08:58 <t8m> nirik, +1
18:09:09 <nirik> it would be very nice ot fix before release tho...
18:10:20 <mjg59> Sure, where possible that clearly ought to happen
18:10:39 <mmaslano> more votes on nirik's proposal?
18:10:41 <limburgher> +1 nirik
18:10:56 <mitr> +1 I think
18:11:40 * nirik is for his own proposal too oddly enough.
18:11:46 * mmaslano too
18:11:56 <notting> +1 for lack of an alternative
18:12:01 <pjones> +1 I guess.
18:12:09 <jwb> sure
18:12:34 <mmaslano> #agreed defer for now and see if mjg59 can get them access to the info they seek (+8,-0)
18:12:34 <pjones> I mean, that's the process anyway if we /don't/ vote on it....
18:12:55 <mmaslano> #topic #971 Freezing for Fedora 18 Beta
18:13:00 <mmaslano> .fesco 971
18:13:02 <zodbot> mmaslano: #971 (Freezing for Fedora 18 Beta) – FESCo - https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/971
18:13:13 <nirik> I took that to be 'no great objection to freeze'
18:13:19 <jwb> we're already frozen
18:13:25 <nirik> so, close this, freeze happened. ;)
18:13:31 <mmaslano> great
18:13:40 <jwb> jreznik, who is "RH's SB manager"
18:13:52 <mmaslano> #info Fedora 18 was already frozen
18:14:18 <notting> jwb: in as much as 'guy running the meetings', jack
18:14:18 <jreznik> jwb: the person responsible for SB as far as I know
18:14:33 <jwb> jreznik, i'm looking for a name, not a role definition
18:14:58 * nirik wonders what SB expands to.... oh, secure boot?
18:15:06 <jreznik> nirik: yep
18:15:07 <pjones> jreznik: he wants to know who you were referring to
18:15:21 <jreznik> pjones: notting answered
18:15:39 <pjones> okay
18:15:46 <jwb> that is the most obtuse way of answering my question, ever.
18:15:53 <jwb> whatever. move on
18:16:16 <mmaslano> #topic #969 libexecdir guideline conflicts with extant packages
18:16:24 <mmaslano> .fesco 969
18:16:25 <nirik> so, I have some info here.
18:16:26 <zodbot> mmaslano: #969 (libexecdir guideline conflicts with extant packages) – FESCo - https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/969
18:16:37 <nirik> FPC is currently discussing a very similar case of this related to java.
18:16:55 <nirik> it's not been decided either way, but it's very similar to this issue.
18:17:15 <mitr> nirik: Something different than the multilib exception for java that we voted on recently?
18:17:19 <nirik> so, I propose we defer this, ask FPC to consider it with java and wait for them to rule on that before we do anything.
18:17:59 <nirik> mitr: it's related. The question then becomes can non multilib things just use lib (like java and systemd do)
18:18:24 <nirik> (at least my quick understanding of it. Didn't read the full FPC meeting)
18:18:59 <notting> if they want to tackle it first, i'm ok with it. w.r.t. the ticket, i'd be proposing 1) and 2) listed there anyway
18:19:42 <nirik> see also: http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/packaging/2012-November/008757.html
18:20:53 <mjg59> I wasn't quite clear from the ticket
18:20:58 <mitr> So at this point I would suggest
18:21:00 <mitr> proposal: formally vote to confirm that As a general matter, Fedora policies trump upstream intentions and preferences (although they can be considered). Rationale: the only way to make Fedora a consistent distribution.
18:21:02 <mitr> And I'd support a deferral of the ticket for a specific resolution re:systemd (unfortunately I haven't had enough time to form an opinion)
18:21:03 <mjg59> Is it /usr/lib, or is it /usr/%(libdir)?
18:21:26 <t8m> mjg59, /usr/lib
18:21:32 <nirik> it's %{prefix}/lib/ on all arches.
18:21:35 <notting> mjg59: the complaint is about x86_64 packages using /usr/lib instead of /usr/%(libdir) or /usr/libexec
18:21:50 <mjg59> notting: Ok from the ticket it sounded like it was primarily about libexec
18:22:15 * gholms is here
18:22:28 <mitr> s/can be considered/can and should be considered/ above
18:22:39 <t8m> gholms, why FPC rejected to allow /usr/lib for non-multilib packages in the systemd case?
18:22:43 <mjg59> mitr: I'm -1 to that as written
18:23:06 <mjg59> mitr: Or, rather, not as written. I agree with the statement, but I don't know that it's the appropriate statement to make in this case
18:23:30 <mjg59> mitr: Where our policies are incompatible with the behaviour of many upstreams, we should reconsider whether our policies are actually helping or harming
18:23:37 <nirik> well, I agree with it, but it's kinda a given isn't it?
18:23:38 <gholms> t8m: I wasn't involved in that discussion, but I can try to find out if necessary.
18:23:58 <nirik> we shouldn't recklessly trump upstream. Only in cases we really must for good reasons.
18:24:04 <mitr> mjg59: I don't know how that applies to systemd in this case. But we have systemd maintainers thinking otherwise, and I don't want the opposite to become a widely accepted oinion.
18:24:05 <gholms> t8m: The decision itself is here, along with some justifiction in the comentary: https://fedorahosted.org/fpc/ticket/158
18:25:40 <mitr> mjg59: https://fedorahosted.org/fpc/ticket/158#comment:6 sums the situation up.
18:25:41 * nirik nods. based on the info at the time...
18:25:50 <nirik> anyhow, any votes on my proposal? ;)
18:26:17 <mjg59> Ok. What's the benefit of requiring libdir rather than /usr/lib for this case?
18:26:26 <mitr> nirik: +1 to deferral.
18:26:58 <gholms> nirik: That's for deferring until fpc decides upon the java stuff, right?
18:27:03 <nirik> mjg59: consistency I guess?
18:27:12 <mitr> mjg59: e.g. ability to run an automated test for misplaced 64-bit binaries
18:27:19 <pjones> yeah, I'm +1 to deferral until the java ruling comes down.
18:27:19 <nirik> gholms: yes, and ask them to think about this too at the same time.
18:27:25 <t8m> +1 to deferral
18:27:27 * notting is +1 for deferral
18:27:39 <mmaslano> +1
18:27:49 <limburgher> +1
18:27:49 <mjg59> I'm +1 to deferral, but the rationale presented for the policy so far seems weak
18:28:13 <jwb> DEFER
18:29:11 <mmaslano> #agreed defer the decision (until Java rulling comes down) (+9,-0)
18:29:13 <mjg59> Are there any cases where you could simultaneously have a 32-bit version of an executable binary in /lib and a 64-bit version in /lib64
18:29:16 <mjg59> ?
18:29:37 <mitr> mjg59: yes
18:29:43 <notting> mjg59: helpers executed by a library, yes
18:29:46 <nirik> sure
18:30:01 * nirik looks. systemd is multiarch?
18:30:14 <nirik> ah, but uses -libs. ok.
18:30:24 <notting> nirik: not the things in /lib/systemd, no
18:30:36 <mjg59> So the objection to using /usr/lib is just that a package might accidentally drop a 64-bit binary there despite supporting simultaneous 32 and 64-bit installation?
18:30:59 <mjg59> And forcing the use of libdir means that we can automatically check for that?
18:32:38 <notting> kind of, yes. if you're putting 64-bit binaries in /usr/lib, you need to 'know your package is never intended to be installed as multilib and will not accidentally be installed that way'
18:32:42 <mjg59> Ok
18:32:46 <notting> which is hard to clearly check against the guideline
18:33:04 <nirik> also lsb says: http://www.linuxbase.org/betaspecs/fhs/fhs.html#usrlibexec
18:33:18 <jwb> you just killed a cat.
18:33:21 <mjg59> nirik: Yeah but the LSB is failing to describe reality in this case
18:33:24 <nirik> yeah, true.
18:33:35 <nirik> anyhow, I'll stop now.
18:33:48 <nirik> we have an agreed and are wasting time. ;)
18:33:50 <mmaslano> next topic?
18:33:53 <mjg59> notting: It seems like we could solve that easily enough by just permitting packages to ship a list of "I really meant to do this"
18:34:06 <nirik> (or just drop 32bit. ;)
18:34:09 <t8m> mmaslano, please
18:34:14 <mmaslano> #topic #970 F19 Feature: RPM 4.11 http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/RPM4.11
18:34:17 <jwb> nirik, or multilib
18:34:17 <mjg59> It's unclear to me that this policy buys us anything other than divergence from upstreams
18:34:23 <mmaslano> .fesco 970
18:34:23 <mjg59> Anyway
18:34:25 <zodbot> mmaslano: #970 (F19 Feature: RPM 4.11 - http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/RPM4.11) – FESCo - https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/970
18:34:26 <mjg59> +1 to rpm
18:34:30 <limburgher> +1!
18:34:35 <nirik> +1 make it so.
18:34:36 <mmaslano> +1
18:34:36 <jwb> +1
18:34:37 <mitr> +1
18:34:40 <pjones> big +1
18:34:41 <nirik> I'd love more f19 features now. ;)
18:34:45 <limburgher> We'll have the 411!
18:34:52 <notting> sure
18:34:53 <notting> +1
18:34:55 <t8m> +1 sure
18:35:15 <mmaslano> #agreed rpm was accepted as f19 feature (+9,-0)
18:35:26 <mmaslano> that's it
18:35:29 <mmaslano> #topic Next week's chair
18:35:52 <jwb> i will be out next week
18:36:01 <nirik> I can do it I suppose...

18:36:30 <mmaslano> #topic Open Floor
18:36:44 <mjg59> It's the day before thanksgiving next week?
18:36:48 <limburgher> Yup.
18:36:52 <nirik> yep
18:36:56 <mjg59> Not that it matters in my case
18:37:08 <nirik> I expect many folks will be gone thursday/friday.
18:37:14 <limburgher> I will.
18:37:16 <pjones> yeah
18:37:17 <notting> yeah, I may or may not be here. will comment in tickets in any case
18:37:18 <nirik> I hope we can get to a beta before next wed.
18:37:33 <limburgher> From your IRC client to $_DEITY's ears.
18:38:13 <mmaslano> I'll close meeting in 5 minutes!
18:39:07 <notting> just want to thank those who threw their name in the hat for the FESCo elections
18:39:54 <limburgher> And Ankur for wrangling.
18:40:06 * gholms concurs
18:40:23 * nirik nods.

19:00:14 <marcdeop> hello everyone
19:00:26 * nirik waits for folks to wander in
19:00:58 <marcdeop> I have a question
19:01:02 * pingou
19:01:08 <smooge> crowbot here
19:01:09 <marcdeop> what time are the meetings supposed to be?
19:01:16 <marcdeop> 18h utc?
19:01:19 <nirik> marcdeop: we were at 18UTC...
19:01:28 <marcdeop> ain't it 19h right now?
19:01:29 <nirik> but DST ended in the us, so we moved with it to 19UTC
19:01:51 * nirik needs to update pages.
19:01:53 * relrod_school here
19:01:54 <nirik> I hate Daylight savings time.
19:02:00 <pingou> nirik: try fedocal :p
19:02:12 <nirik> pingou: :)
19:02:35 <pingou> ok you'll still have to change it twice a year :]
19:02:38 <marcdeop> why do we move things with daylight savings time?
19:02:45 <marcdeop> I mean... utc doesn't change, why should we?
19:03:00 <pingou> marcdeop: because local time do
19:03:19 <nirik> marcdeop: we don't have to...
19:04:01 * nirik doesn't feel too strongly about it, but there's also normally meetings around us and they switch, so we either overlap or move channels.
19:04:39 <pingou> I find it easier if the meeting is at the same time 50 weeks/year
19:05:26 <marcdeop> pingou: yeah, I understand but... EU and US don't cahnge the time at the same time, do they?
19:05:32 <marcdeop> ;)
19:05:36 <nirik> marcdeop: nope. it's a few weeks apart.
19:05:45 <pingou> marcdeop: that's why I said 50 and not 52 ;)
19:05:52 <pingou> nirik: 1 week
19:05:55 <nirik> anyhow, shall we get started?
19:06:05 * marcdeop is all for it
19:06:21 <nirik> #topic New folks introductions and Apprentice tasks
19:06:31 <nirik> any new folks? or apprentice questions or comments?
19:06:54 <marcdeop> me
19:07:06 <marcdeop> I mean, I'm new. Sorta
19:07:32 <mrwizer> I've already done my into but still new. I am looking around but willing to take on any tasks if anyone has some.
19:07:48 <nirik> welcome back marcdeop
19:07:52 <nirik> welcome mrwizer
19:08:18 <nirik> there's a list of easyfix stuff and you're welcome to just look through all existing tickets and ask about them further too.
19:08:20 <marcdeop> thanks! I'll definitelly try to help quite a bit more this time :)
19:08:47 <codegerbil> it looks like since zodbot is kind of a fedora thing, that it would be better if a fedora person write a script. at least that 's my impression from reading the documentation
19:09:30 <nirik> codegerbil: this is refering to the ticket about pruning channels? or whats the context?
19:09:36 <codegerbil> how much does it take to mod supybot, because i am also interested in looking into that, after a ticket is submitted, which i'll get on.
19:09:39 <codegerbil> nirik: yes
19:09:45 <codegerbil> pruning channels
19:10:21 * abadger1999 here now
19:10:23 <nirik> right, I'm not sure how to easily script that. It might be possible to come up with a plugin that reports how long since it was addressed in channels... but that doesn't exist that I know of.
19:10:50 <pingou> based on the .seen command maybe
19:11:19 <codegerbil> ok, then!
19:11:26 <codegerbil> thanks
19:11:55 <nirik> supybot is in python... there's I think some guides on the net how to write up plugins...
19:12:03 <nirik> #topic Applications status / discussion
19:12:13 <nirik> any new application news this week or upcoming?
19:12:27 <nirik> I'll note we are no longer in freeze due to the crazy f18 schedule. ;)
19:12:31 * pingou worked on fedocal
19:12:45 <pingou> and I started the ansible playbook for jenkins_master
19:12:59 <pingou> threebean: pushed apps.fedoraproject.org to prod
19:13:08 <relrod_school> I've been working on extracting the mediawiki PHP fas auth stuff out to a common PHP lib, since we're going to need PHP auth for gallery3, and presumably other PHP apps in the future. See https://github.com/CodeBlock/php-fas/ if you care about that project ;)
19:13:22 <lmacken> Oh, we're not frozen? awesome. So yeah, I'm going to do a full bodhi update then instead of just a hotfix
19:13:27 <nirik> also, I need to work with puiterwijk to get the smolt eol code up and running. hopefully soon.
19:13:41 <nirik> lmacken: :)
19:13:43 <lmacken> the new apps.fp.o is awesome :)
19:14:03 <nirik> #info https://apps.fedoraproject.org/ is cool
19:14:19 <nirik> #info need to get smolt eol code setup and done.
19:14:26 <nirik> #info lmacken to do a bodhi update.
19:14:42 <nirik> relrod_school: is it looking likely to work? or ?
19:14:42 <threebean> I'm gonna aim for pushing zeromq3 stuff into production on monday
19:14:51 <lmacken> has anyone tested how smoltClient acts when smolt is gone?
19:14:55 <pingou> https://209.132.184.106/fedocal/ and there is the start of timezone suport
19:14:57 <pingou> +
19:14:59 <pingou> p
19:15:21 <nirik> lmacken: yeah, we are setting up a thing that accepts the request and sends them a thing that can point to a 'retired' page.
19:15:27 <nirik> we tested it in stg a while back
19:15:35 <lmacken> nirik: oh ok, cool.
19:15:59 <relrod_school> nirik: I'm still early in the project, but yeah, what I've done so far is working. It will hopefully fix that you can't log in to mw via email address too (FAS lets you auth via email or username, the wiki only lets you via username)
19:16:16 <nirik> that would be a nice bug to fix too, yeah
19:16:59 <nirik> ok, anything else on the app side?
19:17:14 <nirik> #topic Sysadmin status / discussion
19:17:25 <lmacken> one last app thing. we had a couple more mailbombings this week :\
19:17:28 <nirik> #info Applied updates to all machines today since we are not frozen.
19:17:35 <lmacken> still not fully resolved
19:17:40 <nirik> lmacken: oh yeah, from tagger?
19:17:52 <lmacken> yep. beaker anonymous sessions creating lots of file descriptors
19:18:10 <smooge> pingou AWESOME SAUCE
19:18:22 <nirik> strange. :( well, at least it also happens in stg, so we can hopefully track it down...
19:18:39 <nirik> #info ansible work continues (I used it to apply updates today)
19:18:40 <lmacken> yeah, I'll work with threebean to try and hunt it down
19:18:45 * threebean nods
19:18:49 <pingou> smooge: thanks, trashy (fas trasher) works on the css :)
19:18:53 <threebean> lmacken: it's real weird.
19:19:31 * abadger1999 is hoping to have a new pyhton-fedora out before we re-freeze.
19:19:35 <nirik> we have some new machines coming in in the next few weeks probibly... a pair of machines to replace sign-vault02 and a virthost machine to test out (new vendor)
19:19:48 <abadger1999> Should be additions to the APIs so low risk of breakage.
19:19:56 <nirik> cool.
19:20:02 <lmacken> abadger1999: I've been doing a little bit of hacking on the fedora.client.wiki this week. Will try and wrap that up before then, but we'll see
19:20:12 <abadger1999> lmacken: Cool. Let me know.
19:20:22 <abadger1999> If it's in tomorrow definitely can go into the next release.
19:20:30 <lmacken> ok
19:20:41 <nirik> oh, there is likely going to be a phx2 outage in december. (date not set in stone yet). It will be a 30min-1hr outage of network.
19:20:45 <abadger1999> If it's not, still likely :-)
19:20:58 <skvidal> in december, how nice
19:20:59 <nirik> we need to look at if we can migrate everything away from phx2 for that time or just say we are out then or what.
19:21:03 <skvidal> maybe it'll be on the 24th
19:21:05 <skvidal> that'd be nice
19:21:17 <skvidal> nirik: is ALL of phx2 out? is it colo-wide?
19:21:17 <abadger1999> or the 27th :-)
19:21:18 <nirik> looking like 12/15
19:21:24 <skvidal> abadger1999: yes
19:21:37 <nirik> skvidal: it's a router/firewall thing, so all net will be out.
19:21:44 <nirik> machines will still be up, etc.
19:21:44 <skvidal> :(
19:21:47 <nirik> just no network
19:22:04 <nirik> #info phx2 network outage in december, need to plan for it.
19:22:34 <nirik> I think it might be a nice test of seeing if we can keep things working with it down... or at least not too badly broken
19:22:35 <smooge> it should be 15 minutes
19:22:42 <smooge> last year it was about 10 minutes
19:23:02 <nirik> All the stuff I have been told is at least 30min. :)
19:23:16 <smooge> ah.. I misread
19:23:17 * skvidal plans for 10 to 15 hours
19:23:31 <smooge> skvidal, pager off and a trip to the bahamas?
19:23:41 <nirik> :)
19:23:53 <nirik> anyhow, thats a bit away still, but just wanted to mention it...
19:24:02 <skvidal> nirik: thx
19:24:15 <nirik> any other sysadminy things recently or upcoming?
19:24:29 <nirik> #topic Private Cloud status update
19:24:37 <skvidal> clouds!
19:24:49 <nirik> I re-installed out openstack cloudlet with folsom
19:24:50 <skvidal> I wrote up some docs on setting up a persistent or transient host in the cloud
19:24:51 <skvidal> using ansible
19:25:09 <nirik> I'm likely to reinstall the head node one more time to get it more ansibled and also to fix a problem with the install that has since been fixed. ;)
19:25:28 <nirik> I also got euca2ools working fine against it.
19:25:34 <skvidal> yay!
19:25:46 <nirik> so, in theory we should be able to use the exact same ansible stuff for it as euca...
19:26:18 <nirik> skvidal: side note, there's no way to name an instance when you start it command line is there? it gets whatever the server assigns it?
19:26:30 <skvidal> I believe that's correct
19:26:44 <skvidal> you can with the nova tools - so it's probably in the os api not the ec2 api
19:26:49 <nirik> euca you get something like 'i-2712763453' right?
19:26:54 <skvidal> yep
19:27:00 <skvidal> but to be fair
19:27:03 <nirik> for openstack you get things like: 'server-2bf83951-dd53-461b-b14f-cebbbef329c5'
19:27:06 <skvidal> the terminate-instance thing I wrote
19:27:07 <nirik> which is a bit wacky
19:27:15 <skvidal> for euca2ools
19:27:19 <skvidal> will take ip addresses
19:27:26 <nirik> yeah.
19:27:55 <nirik> so, after I reinstall the openstack side again I am going to make accounts for a bunch of people, and we can hammer on it.
19:28:09 <skvidal> nirik: vlans!
19:28:29 <nirik> I can try messing with that... but the network situation is... in flux.
19:28:32 * herlo wants an account :)
19:28:52 <skvidal> so on the euca side
19:29:04 <skvidal> I am building the coprs backend and builders in place on it now
19:29:22 <nirik> If anyone wants to help out with cloudlets, see: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure_private_cloud#Moving_to_.22pr… for a list of things we need to work on/document/decide.
19:29:22 <skvidal> and it's coming along swimmingly
19:29:39 <skvidal> I also setup 2 persistent instances for the twistedmatrix folks to run their buildbots on
19:29:45 <skvidal> one under el6 the other on f17
19:29:59 <nirik> cool.
19:30:17 <nirik> herlo: sure thing, will ping you when stuff is reinstalled.
19:30:19 <skvidal> I asked him about it yesterday he seemed fine w/them for the moment
19:30:23 <herlo> nirik: great
19:30:24 <herlo> thanks
19:30:53 <nirik> ok, any further cloud news?
19:31:27 <nirik> #topic Security FAD update
19:31:46 <nirik> abadger1999 and I brainstormed some of the fas stuff we need to look at beforehand.
19:32:01 <nirik> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_Infrastructure_Security_2012/FAS_plan
19:32:34 <nirik> so, if everyone could look at that and add to it/discuss/etc we might get a head start on the fad. ;)

19:33:50 <nirik> Any items we need to schedule or note?
19:34:44 * skvidal is really not looking forward to early/mid january
19:34:45 <abadger1999> Need to update teh freeze and release dates.
19:34:50 <smooge> smolt didn't happen yesterday?
19:35:18 <nirik> abadger1999: I did I thought...
19:35:28 <nirik> smooge: no, I need to get with puiterwijk and make it happen
19:35:29 <abadger1999> Oh -- I'll be taking a short vacation post-FAD.
19:35:39 <abadger1999> nirik: oops. I totally flubbed in reading those dates.
19:35:39 <nirik> skvidal: gonna be a busy time. ;(
19:35:50 <skvidal> nirik: yah
19:36:04 <abadger1999> Flying back on Tuesday Dec 4
19:36:21 <nirik> Oh, one other thing I wanted to note: everyone should think about talks / sessions / hackfests for fudcon...
19:36:33 <nirik> abadger1999: cool. Gonna do some hiking?
19:36:35 <abadger1999> Likely I'll have 0 internet access between the FAD and then.
19:36:58 <abadger1999> nirik: possibly a few day hikes. Going to visit friends and family around NC/VA
19:37:07 <smooge> I will be doing a short talk on passwords and their strength changes.
19:37:10 <skvidal> abadger1999: wherebouts?
19:37:14 <nirik> I was thinking a general infra hackfest as usual... perhaps a talk/session on our private clouds... ansible? fedmeg ?
19:37:17 <skvidal> abadger1999: I'll ask oob, sorry
19:37:26 <skvidal> nirik: at fudcon? or at the fad?
19:37:33 <nirik> skvidal: fudcon.
19:37:41 <skvidal> nirik: +1 I want to do 2 talks if I can
19:37:45 <skvidal> 1 on ansible and 1 on coprs
19:38:15 * herlo definitely wants to attend coprs talk
19:38:15 <skvidal> hmmm - and maybe I would need to be involved on the private cloud things, too
19:38:17 <pingou> skvidal: would be pretty cool if we could finish jenkins master by the fudcon :)
19:38:19 <skvidal> depending on where we will be
19:38:22 <skvidal> pingou: we will
19:38:28 <skvidal> pingou: this I know :)
19:38:30 <pingou> skvidal: awesome :)
19:38:38 <nirik> we could do a bunch of lightning talks on infra stuff too...
19:38:55 <pingou> nirik: just put all the webapp dev on the list ;)
19:39:06 <skvidal> nirik: +1
19:39:54 * relrod_school could maybe look into presenting the fedorahosted web app I was working on, if I get that finished up/tested more/etc
19:40:22 <pingou> relrod_school: if I get some cycles I'd like to help on that one as well
19:40:46 <nirik> also, might be good to do something on our security work from the fad if it works out nicely.
19:40:50 <relrod_school> pingou: cool, always appreciated
19:41:20 <nirik> anyhow, a ways away, just something to be thinking about.
19:41:26 <nirik> #info think about fudcon talks
19:41:34 <nirik> #topic Open Floor
19:41:45 <nirik> anything for open floor? questions? comments? suggestions?
19:42:39 <skvidal> as before
19:42:47 <codegerbil> are apprentices allowed to go to fudcon?
19:42:47 <skvidal> anyone who wants to look at some scripting/playbooking tasks
19:43:02 <codegerbil> yes
19:43:03 <skvidal> come talk to me - I have a couple of things that could use eyes/testing
19:43:09 <pingou> codegerbil: anyone can go to FUDCon
19:43:13 <smooge> skvidal, I want to get to that after I get these things ordered
19:43:15 <codegerbil> pingou: yay!
19:43:23 <nirik> codegerbil: everyone is welcome. ;)
19:43:39 <nirik> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Lawrence_2013
19:43:39 <codegerbil> nirik: that's great :)
19:43:42 <smooge> codegerbil, if you need assistance the ticket system for FUDcon is open.
19:43:44 <nirik> codegerbil: where are you located?
19:44:03 <codegerbil> memphis.
19:44:21 <codegerbil> not too far away
19:44:25 <herlo> codegerbil: oh, you could drive!
19:44:26 <nirik> cool.
19:44:33 * pingou will have his tickets somewhere this week
19:44:38 <skvidal> codegerbil: a short 8 hour drive through desolate country
19:44:39 <skvidal> how nice
19:44:40 <nirik> fudcon is always a great time. Lots of good info, good folks, etc.
19:44:41 <codegerbil> :)
19:44:50 <herlo> +1 nirik
19:44:56 * herlo lubs the fudcon
19:44:58 <skvidal> oh one more thing
19:44:59 <codegerbil> nothing like rt 40 west -_-
19:45:04 * nirik is also going to drive most likely.
19:45:05 <skvidal> do not bring any lurgy to fudcon
19:45:07 <codegerbil> it does look fun
19:45:09 <skvidal> leave your lurgy at home
19:45:12 <codegerbil> ....lurgy?
19:45:19 <smooge> flu cold plague
19:45:29 <skvidal> what smooge said
19:45:33 <codegerbil> oh oh! that makes sense.
19:45:37 <pingou> skvidal: I can bring one from Europe, no ?
19:45:40 * abadger1999 crosses "black death" off his packing list
19:45:43 <smooge> I am bringing black plague this year
19:45:45 <skvidal> pingou: nope., leave it at home
19:45:51 <smooge> so I got you covered abadger1999
19:45:51 <pingou> skvidal: Ooh :(
19:46:07 <nirik> heh
19:46:07 <pingou> smooge: I'm bringing 'French accent' with me
19:46:15 <smooge> oooh even worse
19:46:15 <pingou> and that's whatever skvidal says...
19:46:15 <skvidal> pingou: I bet you are!
19:46:23 <relrod_school> oh, sidenote/reminder for FAD stuff - RH people if you have to get your badge photo in -- do that ;) I did so last week
19:46:27 <pingou> skvidal: what's your t-shirt size btw ?
19:46:42 <skvidal> pingou: it's the "I don't wear tshirts really, ever" size
19:46:45 <nirik> relrod_school: yeah, send my pic in the other day, should have new badge next week.
19:47:01 <smooge> pingou, get him a french button down shirt
19:47:02 <pingou> skvidal: not even white with blue strips and beret ?
19:47:03 <skvidal> pingou: tshirts end up being used as grease rags in the bike shed (the bike shed is gray)
19:47:10 <skvidal> pingou: hahah - that's for spot
19:47:18 <skvidal> pingou: I lack the wine and the cigarettes
19:47:25 * marcdeop remembers very well his trip to Lawrence
19:47:30 <smooge> pingou if you bring the mime paint I will wear it
19:47:34 <pingou> skvidal: I'll let you know when I pack, we can discuss things
19:47:39 <skvidal> pingou: yes :)
19:47:44 <smooge> sorry for disrailing things
19:47:47 <pingou> smooge: really ?
19:47:47 <marcdeop> nice choice to host :)
19:47:57 <skvidal> smooge: I think miming is a criminal art in france, too :)
19:48:06 <nirik> anyhow... shall we call it a meeting?
19:48:21 <smooge> [ o>< ] me in a box
19:48:49 <smooge> call it

18:02:13 * threebean here
18:02:15 <nirik> Lets go ahead and dive on in...
18:02:19 <nirik> #topic New folks introductions and Apprentice tasks
18:02:28 <nirik> any new folks? or apprentices want to talk about tickets/issues/ideas?
18:03:02 <nirik> okey dokey
18:03:05 <_love_hurts_> hey nirik, sorry I was not here few weeks
18:03:16 <nirik> _love_hurts_: no worries. ;) real life gets in the way sometimes.
18:03:17 <_love_hurts_> was bit busy
18:03:33 <nirik> not a problem, and welcome back
18:03:39 <_love_hurts_> ty :)
18:03:41 <nirik> #topic Applications status / discussion
18:03:48 <nirik> any application news this week or upcoming?
18:03:54 <nirik> note that we are still in freeze...
18:04:26 <threebean> nothing major from me. I updated some more pieces of the zeromq3 stack in staging and it's all still working correctly afaict.
18:04:34 <nirik> nice.
18:04:57 <nirik> yeah, freeze is a nice time to try and catch up on upstream stuff for apps... or staging.
18:05:24 <threebean> yup :)
18:05:43 <nirik> we should try and get the smolt stuff setup in stg soon... our deadline for that is not far...
18:06:04 <abadger1999> <nod>
18:06:49 <nirik> puiterwijk has code that seems to work fine, but we should push it live in stg and make sure we didn't forget anything.
18:07:02 <nirik> #topic Sysadmin status / discussion
18:07:13 <nirik> the usual flow of tickets...
18:07:32 <nirik> I'd like to look at moving noc02 soon. It's not frozen...
18:07:56 <skvidal> nirik: to ibiblio?
18:08:01 <skvidal> or where?
18:08:01 <nirik> skvidal: yep.
18:08:04 <skvidal> cool
18:08:06 <skvidal> +1
18:08:11 <nirik> somewhere with ipv6 and good connectivity
18:08:26 <skvidal> :)
18:08:44 <nirik> oh, should have noted in applications news:
18:08:59 <nirik> #info we are looking at setting up a gallery instance for fudcon/fedora events pictures.
18:09:07 <nirik> it's still in early stages yet tho
18:09:33 <nirik> any other sysadminy news?
18:09:45 <nirik> #topic Private Cloud status update
18:09:57 <skvidal> yes
18:09:58 <skvidal> so
18:09:58 <nirik> skvidal has some provisioning working nicely now in the private cloud
18:10:05 <skvidal> http://skvidal.wordpress.com/2012/10/31/ansible-and-cloud-instances/ <-- as an explanation
18:10:10 <skvidal> then in the ansible public repo
18:10:19 <skvidal> http://infrastructure.fedoraproject.org/infra/ansible/README
18:10:37 <skvidal> instructions for any sysadmin-main folks to startup a smallish instance on el6 or f17
18:10:39 <skvidal> ready to go
18:10:46 <nirik> cool. :)
18:11:04 <skvidal> I will add more docs as to how to use a different security group (default is very limited)
18:11:12 <skvidal> and perhaps 'webserver' is more likely what we would need
18:11:27 <nirik> yeah.
18:11:28 <skvidal> but the gist is - you can spin up an instance in about 30s to a minute
18:11:29 <nirik> depending on needs.
18:11:46 <skvidal> with the right set of auth keys for whichever users
18:11:56 <skvidal> and then you can destroy it, at will.
18:12:14 <skvidal> I'd like to be able to add some functionality to write out the instance id, ip and other data to a file/log somewhere
18:12:15 <nirik> those are all in their own 'account' right? so different vlan, etc
18:12:27 <skvidal> nirik: those are in the 'fedora' account under 'admin'
18:12:30 <skvidal> it doesn
18:12:35 <skvidal> 't make a new vlan for each
18:12:38 <skvidal> only for each security group
18:12:40 <nirik> yeah, sounds good. Just 'syslog' ? have epylog report on them?
18:12:56 <skvidal> nirik: yah - I could spew to logger the info it is passing so we can trace it back
18:13:07 <skvidal> hey - maybe I should see about calling fedmsg :)
18:13:13 <nirik> you could. :)
18:13:17 <skvidal> indeed
18:13:25 <skvidal> nirik: so they are not entirely isolated to another vlan
18:13:33 <nirik> ok, not a big deal, just wondering.
18:13:35 <skvidal> if you want I could make a new security group per each one
18:13:47 <nirik> anything anyone does should be over ssh anyhow... or publiuc
18:13:49 <skvidal> but i'd need to hack up something to clean up unused security groups
18:13:50 <nirik> public even
18:13:58 <skvidal> it's doable
18:14:04 <skvidal> but my time is tight right now with other things
18:14:22 <nirik> yeah, might throw it in a todo for later days when we are all bored sitting on a beach. ;)
18:14:35 <skvidal> riiiiiiiiiighto
18:14:36 <skvidal> I will
18:14:36 <rbergeron> what's this about bored sitting on a beach? that sounds pretty awesome
18:14:39 <skvidal> it's a good idea
18:14:40 <smooge> fudcon 2013
18:14:41 * threebean is in
18:14:57 <smooge> sitting on a beach
18:15:02 <nirik> fudcon maldives!
18:15:06 <skvidal> provision every new instance into its own security group (perhaps made on demand w/whatever ports needed (defaulting to 80,443,22 and icmp)
18:15:10 <skvidal> nirik: dude....
18:15:20 <skvidal> I've told people that costarica is perfect for a winter fudcon
18:15:23 <skvidal> but do they listen?
18:15:23 <nirik> yep. ;) anyhow...
18:15:24 <skvidal> Nooooooooooo
18:15:48 <nirik> only other cloud news is that I need to look and see if OS folsom is ready to test for us yet...
18:15:58 <nirik> if it is I will reinstall the OS side and ansible as I go...
18:16:06 <nirik> and possibly do no glustering...
18:16:41 <nirik> #topic Security FAD update
18:16:50 <nirik> fad planning is ongoing...
18:16:59 <nirik> hopefully everything is on trac.
18:17:03 <Southern_Gentlem> skvidal, you organize and we will come
18:17:27 <nirik> any questions or concerns on security FAD?
18:18:06 <smooge> ok I need to update some stuff there
18:18:18 <nirik> smooge: ok. any problems? or just updates?
18:18:19 <smooge> we aren't at the Sheraton but at the Radison.
18:18:30 <nirik> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_Infrastructure_Security_2012
18:18:39 <nirik> ah, ok. is that closer/further/better?
18:18:43 <smooge> Toshio's ticket got late files
18:18:44 * pingou late
18:18:52 <smooge> it is about the same...
18:19:10 <nirik> ok
18:19:36 <smooge> I won't be coming up in my dad's old truck to pick people up at the airport when seth can't.. my mom says they don't let dogs and syssadmins sit in the back anymore.. so I will have a Taurus I think
18:20:00 <abadger1999> heh :-)
18:20:08 <nirik> I'm also going to try and send out some prelim info/background via email a week or two before... and see if there's any prelim work we can hash out before we get there too.
18:20:28 <skvidal> dumb question
18:20:32 <smooge> I will start getting on people's cases for blog updates about the FAD and such
18:20:33 <skvidal> how many total people will be there?
18:20:40 <smooge> 10 people
18:20:40 <skvidal> b/c I am worried about this becoming cumbersome
18:20:46 <skvidal> okay, that's manageable
18:20:53 <nirik> yeah, hopefully not too bad.
18:21:05 * nirik is most worried about the fas changes...
18:21:15 <nirik> I think the pam stuff and cgi shouldn't be too bad...
18:21:22 <skvidal> agreed
18:21:36 <skvidal> if we only get this working for sysadmin-main in a db behind the scene for sudo
18:21:40 <skvidal> I'd still consider it a benefit
18:22:00 <nirik> yeah. I think sudo for * with a db would be very possible...
18:22:16 <nirik> but I'd like to have fas integrated.
18:22:26 <nirik> and explore/discuss ssh too. :)
18:22:43 <skvidal> indeed
18:22:54 <nirik> anyhow, I think it will be a nice productive week.

18:23:45 <abadger1999> nirik: let's talk oob about what goes into fas integration.
18:23:48 <nirik> Anything anyone would like to note or schedule or shout out
18:24:01 <skvidal> do we have the flight info on the website, yet?
18:24:05 <nirik> abadger1999: ok. I think that would be good to do
18:24:19 <nirik> skvidal: we don't, but we should add it... at least arrival and depart times
18:24:39 <skvidal> right - my main thing is - if I can pick everyone up in eunice's car - then that will be easy
18:24:50 <skvidal> if not - I can rent a car for picking people up for the day
18:25:12 <skvidal> smooge: this way, at least, you won't need to stress on driving to/from the airport since I know the way pretty well
18:25:34 <nirik> sounds good. we should update the wiki with times so we can figure out if people get there in bunches or what
18:25:38 <skvidal> right
18:25:39 <skvidal> exactly
18:25:42 <smooge> skvidal, I figured I would be picking up the toshios and such who are getting in at midnight or later
18:25:52 <skvidal> smooge: I'm up late anyway
18:26:20 <smooge> ok yeah.. you are :).. didn't know how you liked to drive at night though.
18:26:32 <skvidal> should be fine
18:26:41 <skvidal> 40 at that time will be vacant
18:26:48 <smooge> but hey I can drive up on Monday and we can hash out any issues when I get there.
18:26:49 <skvidal> gives me time to listen to marketplace
18:26:52 <skvidal> cool
18:27:42 * nirik nods.
18:27:48 <nirik> #topic Open Floor
18:28:03 <nirik> anything for open floor? questions/concerns/comments?
18:28:12 * suehle corrects smooge's earlier note that the FAD hotel is the Radison. It's the Marriott downtown, which got you the same rate but with wifi and slightly closer to the office :)
18:29:12 <_love_hurts_> nirik I may need to discuss about Ticket 2783 tomarrow or the day after tomarrow
18:29:18 <pingou> we keep the meeting at this time right? So next week it's one hour later, correct?
18:29:35 <nirik> suehle: cool. ;)
18:29:36 <suehle> also on the fad, I'm booking relrod's flight shortly, but I haven't seen a ticket for whiterhino's flight
18:29:44 <nirik> _love_hurts_: ok.
18:30:21 <smooge> ah crap.. thanks suehle
18:30:24 <nirik> suehle: I think they dropped out. I mailed them a bit back and they never replied.
18:30:37 <abadger1999> suehle: wifi! yay!
18:30:50 <smooge> I have no idea why I wrote down radison twice...
18:31:30 <nirik> suehle: yeah, we can remove them I think. I mailed on the 2nd of OCT with no reply. ;(
18:32:18 <threebean> Maybe a silly question, but the F18 beta release is 2012-11-13.. is the freeze over at that point too?
18:32:35 <suehle> niriki, noted
18:33:08 <nirik> threebean: yep
18:33:14 * threebean nods
18:33:20 <samkottler> I am all good for travel to the FAD
18:33:22 <nirik> if it is released then finally.
18:33:23 <samkottler> thanks suehle!
18:33:36 <suehle> oh, I remember now... I'd emailed relrod a question about his flight and hadn't heard back. :S
18:33:43 <suehle> will ping again
18:33:46 <smooge> I think we are not releasing til December/January. but I am an optimist
18:35:41 <abadger1999> threebean: day after releas.
18:36:11 <nirik> ok, anything else for open floor?
18:36:15 <nirik> or shall we call it a meeting?
18:36:21 <skvidal> umm
18:36:25 <skvidal> one more addition to the cloud stuff
18:36:42 <skvidal> if anyone wants to work on an instance, or tinker with new images, etc
18:36:49 <skvidal> yell at me I can do what I can to help
18:37:00 * nirik nods.
18:37:03 <threebean> abadger1999: helpful, thank you.
18:37:19 <nirik> we have a list of items we want to address before calling things production too... any work on those would be fine with me.
18:37:30 <skvidal> agreed
18:37:50 <skvidal> there's lots of stuff
18:38:17 <nirik> never a dull moment. ;)
18:38:29 <nirik> ok, thanks for coming everyone. Lets all get back to infraing. ;)

17:02:01 <dcr226> no we're not!!!!
17:02:02 <dcr226> ;-)
17:02:13 <Discordian> Bit of a lull at the moment I think
17:02:59 <nirik> for anyone looking for the F18 beta no-go meeting...
it's in #fedora-meeting-1 17:03:15 <dcr226> Hah, was that deliberate?
17:03:27 <nirik> its pretty clear it's no go today. ;)
17:03:30 <dcr226> :)
17:03:33 <nirik> anyhow... on to our meeting.
17:03:40 <nirik> #topic Week in review
17:03:40 <nirik>

<nirik> pretty quiet week from what I have seen 17:04:07 <Discordian>
Yep very much so 17:04:47 <dcr226> Nobody is foul-mouthed in #fedora
(Fedora's IRC Support Channel stats for Current Week)! Get out much?
17:04:48 <nirik> anything anyone wants to note or shout out from the
last week? 17:04:50 <dcr226> WTF? 17:04:55 <nirik> :)
