Hello all,
Tonight, the "Gimp - A fast overview" article came up on the agenda. We were hoping to get a status check on where this article was. This article might be good for next week, or maybe early the following week.
Any new updates or info on the status of this article?
Thanks!
I thought I already answered this... But just in case, I added another and some info.
Cheers, Sylvia

Hi Sylvia, we discussed the GIMP article idea in the meeting this evening and had some ideas for it.
Rather than go through menus, make the article more high level. Talk about some purposes for which a user might run GIMP. I can think of several:
1. Retouching photos 2. Making quick banners wiht text effects 3. Exact resizing or cropping of pictures 4. Converting graphics formats 5. Painting freehand
There may be others too. You don't have to explain how to use GIMP for each of these. Instead, just listing each purpose, and maybe mentioning one or two tools in GIMP that help. Screenshots for each aren't necessary, maybe one or two would be enough.
What do you think?
Just saying the purposes or uses would be repeating things that are already written in many other blogs and pages. Adding to every purpose a couple of examples like "You can crop images and paste them into others using this and this tool" could be better. My intention quickly describing the menus is showing where is everything to people that already used to another programme (Photoshop, Illustrator, Paint Shop Pro, etc). Retouching a photo is a full topic of its own, so wide you need to say specifically what are you talking about or it will mean nothing. But your idea is good I'm writing some now so you can take a look later and see what you think.
I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the meeting, and I couldn't write anything else on the article.
Cheers, Sylvia

Hi! I already make a new post called "Installing Plasma 5" and copy&pasted part of my article there. If anyone can take a look, it would be great. I'm thinking in leaving a "Installing other desktops" as an introduction to the subsequent more detailed articles. I also added some stuff related to Paul's idea, so it would be appreciate some feedback there too.
Cheers, and thanks! Sylvia

Hey Sylvia! Thanks for getting this done.
I just gave a quick scroll through it and the format and length look good to me. Before Friday, I'll be able to do a round of edits through it and give some more feedback in terms of the new content. We should be able to get a good featured image in before Friday too.
Thanks again for helping get this article out!

That's precisely what I was aiming for, thanks.

OK, so are you proposing not to do every menu entry, but just key entries?
Retouching a photo is a full topic of its own, so wide you need to say specifically what are you talking about or it will mean nothing. But your idea is good I'm writing some now so you can take a look later and see what you think.

No worries, happy to look at what you have when you've made changes!

Hi Paul!
Yes, key entries. There's no need of saying "Open is for opening your images", but there's a common mistake about "Save as", so explaining it only works for saving your changes in the native Gimp format and nothing else will save a lot of time and cursing to users. That's my idea.
Thank you, glad we agreed. Sylvia
Hi Folks, where can i see the advance of those new articles? Tnk

Hi Ricardo,
When you're logged into the Magazine, you can browse through all posts that are being drafted in the WordPress Admin Panel. If you find an article you want to look at, there is a "Preview" button that will open the article for you.
For example, for the Gimp article, you can find the preview here (just remember you have to be signed in):
