Greetings.
We are going to be releasing EPEL6 soon, and would like help with the announcement. Here's a rough draft I have currently.
Any comments/corrections/re-wording/etc welcome.
--cuthere-- The Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) project is happy to announce today the release of EPEL6. The EPEL6 software collection is add on packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and other compatible systems, maintained by the community under the umbrella of the Fedora Project.
Over 2500 source packages that build into over 5600 binary rpms are included currently, limited only by maintainers eager and willing to maintain more packages. (See below to join us!)
Some highlights:
rt3 - The Request Tracker Bug and Ticket tracking system, as well as it's 90 perl packages dependencies.
trac - Project management system, along with many plugins.
haproxy, varnish and lighttpd proxies and web servers.
BackupPC, rdiff-backup and other backup clients.
A large stack of Ruby packages.
Spamassassin plugins, clamav and other mail server and filtering solutions.
rkhunter and chkrootkit security scanners.
collectd, munin, nagios and cacti monitoring solutions.
Over 600 perl packages.
And many more...

You might want to note two things. A) It is fully compatible with RHEL 6 and does not replace or conflict with anything in the base repository and that EPEL enforces this via a policy. B) This is a community repository and not commercially supported by Red Hat.

ok. How about a second paragraph that reads:
EPEL6 packages never replace RHEL6 packages, only build on them and are fully compatible with RHEL6. EPEL is a community supported and maintained project, and it's packages are not commercially supported by Red Hat.
Or should that read better at the end?
Thanks for the feedback!

I would suggest:
EPEL 6 packages is a complimentary and compatible add-on repository and provides additional packages for RHEL 6 or compatible rebuilds and does not replace any RHEL 6 packages. EPEL is a community project maintained and supported by volunteers (via bugzilla and mailing lists) as part of the Fedora Project and is not commercially supported by Red Hat.

Sounds good to me. :)

We should use "supplementary" instead of "complementary". There's a subtle difference in the meanings: the former connotes that a thing is additional to the whole, whereas the latter connotes that the whole is not complete without the thing.
Also, "Red Hat, Inc."?

Reasonable. I have made those changes.
I also have the current revision up at: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Kevin/EPEL6_Announce_Draft if folks would like to further edit or suggest changes.
Thanks!

Sure. Will take a closer look later. When's the cut-off for feedback?

Well, we were hoping to announce today, but I need to talk with Dennis about where we are on having things ready. It might be best to just announce tomorrow morning at this point...

Okay, I had a further look and the first two paragraphs were somewhat redundant. I made changes on your wiki page to the first two paragraphs. I think it reads much better now.

Just so -- tip of the fedora to you for catching that!

+0.5, at least.
