Hi All,
I just organized the flight information of those who got approved from last night's approval meeting. Apparently, plenty of them are arriving at sometime past midnight, which means, they will need help in picking them up from the airport.
So I guess we'll need to figure out pickup :-)
Can they take a cab? Going to KLIA pat midnight can be tiring....

that will mean more cost (compared to just covering fuel)
well .. yeah tiring .. what is not? :-) ..i'm not saying you should be the one picking them out .. maybe figure out a volunteer who specifically tasked for this?? ..
i'm ok to pick them up too (and they recognize my face), but i'm not sure whether its a good idea for me to go considering there'll be other stuff i need to take care of nearing the event .. (though might also work if sniffit can sort out the crew :-) )
I am sure they are smart enough to take a cab or any other public transport to get to the airport. Our public transportation system ain't that awful especially if they take a cab from the airport.
Does barcamp style unconferences pick up speakers? Any specific reasons?

dude ... the issue right now is mainly targetted to these: - Those who arrived at late night when public transport are already down, and cabs have started to charge 200% - Those who arrived at daytime , yes, they can find their way. Public transport works find during daytime, we don't have to pick them up, unless due emergency reasons. - Only covers those who are under fedora funding, the rest, no.
- You really want people to be lost around 1am in the morning, in a country they are not familiar with?? I dont. - Or can you suggest a better idea on how to prevent this?
(probably this thread should be renamed to -> "Pick up fedorans who arrived late at night")
@Meng,
You want to volunteer for this? .. Right now from the tentative, theres:
kumarpraveen, ankursinha, adimania -> 16th May, 12:10am in LCCT, so maybe 1:30am in KLSentral
rtnpro -> 17th May, 12:10am in LCCT, so maybe 1:30am in KLSentral
the rest arrives at daytime, so we dont have to pick them.
* The timing should +- 30mins for them to get luggage, buy bus ticket, get to the bus, bus delay (as usual) etc.. * Re-confirm which bus they boarded, since the bus might stop at different places.. of course it is KL Sentral, but the place quite huge.. hopefully, every1 is reachable by phone..

Hi,
Maybe we could put together a simple guide for the sponsored attendees detailing which bus to take and from where, where to get off, etc.
I'm headed to LCCT on the 6th – if you can wait till then, I will write up a simple doc on the 7th of April. Can anyone do KLIA?
Do let me know.
Thanks
Cheers Gurdip

yes, thats the plan - for the daytime attendees
our issue right now are those arriving at late midnight .. or Gurdip, can you stay in LCCT until 12:40am and see whether you can get home affordably around that time? :P .. a clear idea on the cost + difficulty involved can help us in making decision.
Yes we can wait till 7th April, as this is not an urgent decision to make :-)

Counter tickets for bus at LCCT at 1 place, no matter SkyBus, AeroBus.. same with where to board, but stop at different places.. I took same bus from LCCT twice recently, same time ard 1am.. 1 stop at KL Sentral's bus terminal, another 1 stop at petrol station in front of KL Sentral..
That's why all sponsored attendees who wish to be picked-up, please provide details of pic, reachable phone number that roaming enabled to Kage, so that he can pass to any1 who will be at kl sentral later..

I remembered you saying that this an unconference. So an unconference does not pick up attendees, speakers, so please make up your mind what you want it to be - a "traditional" conference you said you don't want it to be or a barcamp style? I am getting confused.
So are you concerned that they have to pay more?
I am OK if you wanna pick them up. But seeing that many are students or young adults who may have limited funds...I am just concerned that it may be taxing to them. They may be willing but sometimes we need to curb their enthusiasms. Not cools to have them RM20 bucks for the rest of the month.

You really want people to be lost around 1am in the morning, in a
country they are not familiar with?? I dont. - Or can you suggest a better idea on how to prevent this?
(probably this thread should be renamed to -> "Pick up fedorans who arrived late at night")
@Meng,
You want to volunteer for this?

Shall we discuss about this at tomorrow's IRC meeting? ;)

Does barcamp style unconferences pick up speakers? Any specific
reasons?
dude ... the issue right now is mainly targetted to these:
- Those who arrived at late night when public transport are already
down, and cabs have started to charge 200%
- Those who arrived at daytime , yes, they can find their way. Public
transport works find during daytime, we don't have to pick them up, unless due emergency reasons.
Only covers those who are under fedora funding, the rest, no.

well yes, its a barcamp style .. and yes, I dont plan to pick up those who can attend themselves or in daytime,
but in this case, you really want to leave a foreigner alone in a country they are not familiar with , middle of the night ? :)
So are you concerned that they have to pay more?
they wouldnt have to apply for sponsorship if they can right? :)

I would make the fuel coverable .. its cheaper to pay for the fuel than to pay for taxi ..

unless the data from Gurdip later proves otherwise ..
Having paid rm160 for setiawan-utp cab at 2am in the morning a few years back, midnight taxi is annoying ..

(or was that rm80? .. yondie might remember .. anyway .. midnight taxi is annoying .. )
maybe a proper airport taxi is cheaper, but Gurdip will have to check that ..
Yup. Will check and feed data.
Cheers Gurdip

Its a little too far ahead to tell, but I am willing to pick the 3 up on the 16th of May. Got a Toyota Camry at my disposal, so I could fit the 3 of them plus luggage easily in its boot. To be honest though, I would prefer picking them up directly at LCCT. Done that trip many times myself.

Dear Izhar,
How far is KLIA from the hotel / APIIT arena? I guess speaker can be given an instruction to get on KLIA express and change to LRT (if needed) from KL Central to reach the desired place. That won't be that tough for me at least.

Hi All,
I just organized the flight information of those who got approved from last night's approval meeting. Apparently, plenty of them are arriving at sometime past midnight, which means, they will need help in picking them up from the airport.
So I guess we'll need to figure out pickup :-)

yes, we are providing instructions on how to get to APIIT if the person arrived at daytime,
but the issue in discussion right now is for those who arrived post 11pm as the train, bus services etc are now offline ..

later than these, they have to wait for first train/bus in the morning..
