Hi all,
This is probably off-topic but i'm seeking advice about "how can i get 30 students to get a hang of linux system administration while loving it"
They seemed to not remember what i had taught, even the simplest thing like removing a line while using vim. One thing that i realized that most of them, especially the boys are pretty must hyped when i taught to gain remote access to another fedora system with ssh client and you can bet that they had tried to reboot that ssh server.
Still searching the net about labs related to linux sysadmin and if anyone want to share their idea, just reply to this post, don't be shy ;)

make it fun? ..
though imo, dont bother in getting all of em to "get the hang of it while loving it" .. it just wont work that way .. different ppl have different interests
getting 10% of them is already good

theres this pattern of "i-want-to-be-a-cracker" among students .. stuff like getting root and getting remote access tend to give the high for bunch of em ..

my usual way is to identify the talents and try to brush up his/her skills and bring him/her to be involved with the community

Do what my lecturer does to me to make us all remember the stuff. Do weekly quizzes that goes into the final grade. Sure works in making us study
But then again, the students might resent it, especially close toward the end of the term where many assignments are due.
this must be student from poli right? i'll be join in with you umar this weekend for that class. i'll see what are the things that we can improve on.

Hafiz
