/dev/log is currently a SOCK_DGRAM socket, no need to connect, and no need to accept, only sendto and recvfrom.
On Linux and BSD. How about the rest? Solaris /dev/log is a streams device and afair HPUX was also something special.
solaris has a STREAMS device augmented with a door. HP-UX has a named pipe, AIX has a socket, Tru64 is a pipe or also a socket.
Some Linux platforms might still use SOCK_STREAM.
