Simon Birtwhistle (itbegins), Hiemanshu Sharma (hiemanshu), Pascal
Calarco (pcalarco), Karsten Wade (quaid), David Nalley (ke4qqq), and Jon
Stanley (jds2001) got together at various points on #fedora-meeting-1
throughout the day yesterday to work on Fedora Insight.

Here is a very brief summary that leaves out much detail. The team
accomplished an amazing amount of work with kudos particularly going to
Simon and Hiemanshu for doing the bulk of the work.
The team structured work around a set of TRAC tickets:
https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/2006https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/2007
1. Upgrading Publictest6
-------------------------
The main work concentrated on upgrading the Zikula instance on
publictest6, from 1.1.2 to 1.2.2. Simon upgraded this by hand, while
Hiemanshu packaged the new Zikula 1.2.2. A new version (0.40) of the
Zikula module, pagemaster, was also installed on pt6. Once an RPM
package was ready to review, a note was sent off to David Nalley, who
joined in the channel a bit later.
2. Repository for Zikula 1.2.2
------------------------------
A discussion ensued about packaging guidelines and whether an exception
could be made for Zikula 1.2.2 around one of the deprecated
Zikula-specific bundled libraries included in the package,
zikula-php-gettext that had some packaging and licensing issues. Jon
Stanley joined shortly thereafter as well. A new TRAC ticket came out
of this discussion (thank you, Karsten):
https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/2008
3. Pagemaster templating
------------------------
Hiemanshu and Simon worked together to next focus on customizing the UI
templates for pagemaster, a Zikula module that the key for the content
model and workflow that we need for Fedora Insight.
The first content we are focusing on is that of Fedora Weekly News
(FWN), and so we worked on customizing the templates for that workflow,
with a more generic set of templates and workflow defined for general
news items. In Pagemaster terms, these are different publication types
and templates, with different workflow defined for each.
4. Iterative testing with FWN Content
-------------------------------------
Pascal Calarco started loaded past FWN individual beats, and the team
worked on having the template aggregate these into a given FWN Issue on
Fedora Insight. The two different workflows were used for this: FWN
pubtype for individual FWN beats, and then creating a posting for the
front page of Fedora Insight pointing to the aggregated issue:
http://publictest6.fedoraproject.org/zikula/index.php?module=pagemaster&tid…
(requires FAS test authentication)
http://publictest6.fedoraproject.org/zikula/
We substantially completed the FWN workflow, although a couple more TRAC
tickets will be opened up and worked on to further finesse the workflow,
create RSS functionality, and other items.
In the short term, none of the workflow from the FWN beat writers
perspective needs to change; the change is that the FWN editor reposts
content to Fedora Insight once it is posted. The Fedora Insight
proposed workflow for FWN (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FWN/FIWorkFlow)
will be updated to reflect the outcomes.
What remains:
* upgrading Zikula and pagemaster on staging
* moving over database from pt6 to staging to reflect template customization
* creating RSS functionality for FWN at the beat and issue level
* defining and documenting authorization levels between conten
contributors, editors, administrators
* tweaking the FWN pubtype Admin menu to improve editing efficiency
* discussing, decisioning and documenting standards for FWN content from
wiki source
* testing generic news pubtype with other content
A huge thanks to Simon Birtwhistle (Zikula.org) and Hiemanshu Sharma
(Fedora Marketing), and Karsten Wade (Logistics/Community
Infrastructure) for the amazing amount of work we accomplished
yesterday! Lots of work to do yet, but we made substantial progress on
the core infrastructure for Fedora Insight.

I've been wondering if there's something more we can do with
start.fedoraproject.org. I was thinking about adding more information to
the site without cluttering it up. We chatted in #fedora-websites for a
bit and thought about this:
2 boxes
Each box contains 3 "news" items
Each item would contain a title link, and very brief description
One box would be for Fedora Project news "Test day tomorrow", "Public
Fedora Board Meeting"
One box would be for Fedora OS news "Alpha is out" "Try the new security
spin", etc.
We were thinking about adding it along the left side if there's enough
room. Some mockups will help identify best locations for sure.
Any thoughts/comments on it?

Hi Logistics, Marketing and News teams --
From a brief IRC conversation on #fedora-mktg yesterday with itbegins
(Simon Birtwhistle), we thought of trying to get some people together
this weekend to make real headway on Fedora Insight UI customization on
the staging server. Some tasks we hope to accomplish:
* cross-train some designers with HTML & CSS skills to know the Zikula
internals and particulars of where and how to customize for Fedora Insight
* complete the work remaining for Fedora Weekly News' workflow to begin
using Fedora Insight for a near-future FWN publishing vehicle
* get stuff in place for the Fedora Marketing FAD in a couple weeks so
we can complete Fedora Insight there for FWN production launch in
mid-late March
If you are interested and available, please take a look at the Doodle
poll below and we'll pick out some time this weekend when we can work on
this as a group:

Mel, do you have a suggestion as to which freenode channel we should use
for something like this? Perhaps #fedora-meeting-1 ?
Thanks, everyone!

One week from today, February 25, 2010, we will meet to make sure we are
coordinated and ready for the public release of the Fedora 13 Alpha on
Tuesday, March 2, 2010.
date: 2010-02-25
place: irc.freenode.net #fedora-meeting
time: 21:00 UTC (4 PM Eastern)
This meeting works best when we have representatives from all of the
teams so we'll be looking for the following people to attend or send a
different representative:
Ambassadors -- David Nalley
Design -- Máirín Duffy
Documentation -- Eric Christensen
FESCo -- Kevin Fenzi
Fedora Engineering Manager -- Tom "Spot" Callaway
Fedora Project Leader -- Paul Frields
Infrastructure -- Mike McGrath
Marketing -- Mel Chua
Quality -- James Laska
Release Engineering -- Jesse Keating
Translation -- Noriko Mizumoto
Websites -- Ricky Zhou
Frank - the logistics list is where we're coordinating a lot of the
zikula work right now (since it's so cross-team), so I'm copying them to
see if there's anything we can do to take a look and help out.
Logistics folks: Frank's been working on getting the Advanced Polls
module working, but has run into problems - see below. Any thoughts?
Frank: Could you point us towards a ticket (if you've filed one
somewhere) or a way to get account info for pt16 so we can duplicate
what you're getting? (Does this happen for other zikula installs, or
just the pt16 one - what happens if you set zikula up on localhost?)
Thanks!

I don't know the answer to this one - I looked in the zikula forums for
"feeds" and came up empty-handed
(http://community.zikula.org/module-Search-search.htm) If nobody on
this list knows the answer, it might be time to take the question
upstream - I'm not sure I understand the problem fully, but with
instructions/screenshots/a walkthrough of the questions I'd be happy to
serve as a forums-proxy.

Thanks, Craig! I think we just have one blocker left now on the design
(https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/85) and Hiemanshu is back
from traveling now so hopefully we'll have all these changes pushed to a
package ready to test out pretty soon.

What's the preferred method of requesting accounts for the Zikula
staging server? Should I open a Trac request and to which team? I
requested an account through Zikula on Monday and haven't heard
anything. Thanks!

Simon and I got a fair ways to putting into place the UI components on
Zikula on publictest6 at FUDCon back in December, and what we need next
on the staging server is to have some of that work re-created or moved
over. Compare:
http://publictest6.fedoraproject.org/zikula/index.php?module=pagemaster&typ…
with
https://stg.fedoraproject.org/insight/index.php?module=pagemaster
Right now the components indeed might be further along on staging, but
there is nothing there for workflow for writers and editors to submit,
review and decision.
I have a couple SVGs showing the differences between the two that I can
send along or post to the wiki to show the difference. Thanks!
