Greetings,
I'm a Fedora remix maker and the following refers to Fedora 13 and the version of livecd-tools and livecd-creator currently shipping with it. I haven't yet advanced to making rpm packages for my minor modifications. I currently just do a few copy operations in the %post --nochroot section of my kickstart file.
The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to replace the /isolinux/splash.jpg on the Live media. I thought just copying my desired jpg file to /usr/lib/anaconda-runtime/syslinux-vesa-splash.jpg would do the trick as that appears to be the file referenced per this snooping:
# grep jpg /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/imgcreate/live.py "/usr/lib/anaconda-runtime/syslinux-vesa-splash.jpg" if self.__copy_syslinux_background(isodir + "/isolinux/splash.jpg"): background = "menu background splash.jpg"
That doesn't seem to work. What file do I need to replace?
I'd appreciate it if someone in the know would answer the question rather than questioning my wanting to do it in the first place. :)
Thanks in advance,

These files are copied before the %post scripts are executed.
In your %post --nochroot you have to hack $LIVE_ROOT/isolinux directly.

Well that doesn't answer the question. What jpg file is used as the source for /isolinux/splash.jpg? Is it indeed /usr/lib/anaconda-runtime/syslinux-vesa-splash.jpg? If so, does that file come from the host filesystem or the build filesystem? I replaced it on the host filesystem before even starting the build.
The /var/tmp/iso-{random} directory (or whatever the proper name is) isn't created until very late in the build process. I thought %post stuff was completed prior to that but perhaps not.
Thanks for responding.

You need to re-roll the anaconda rpm with your .jpg and use the newly created rpm in the build environment.
These files are copied before the %post scripts are executed.
In your %post --nochroot you have to hack $LIVE_ROOT/isolinux directly.

neither, the anaconda rpm is sourced early during the build process and the contents extracted for use within the build environment as the buildinstall process sets up.

Hope that helps,

This is incorrect. Anaconda RPM never gets installed unless it is a dependency of another package or you specify it explicitly.
All of this is easily done by just copying the file you want to isodir/isolinux/splash.jpg in the %post section of the kickstart.

I'm pretty sure that this is the correct procedure for creating a renamed spin:
Download the generic-logos and generic-release or fedora-logos and fedora-release .src.rpms. Rename them and change them to your liking. Rebuild them. (Whether you start with generic- or fedora- depends on if you intend to abide by the Fedora trademark restrictions.)
Create a new yum repo for your spin. Put the new dowdlelinux-logos and dowdlelinux-release src.rpm and noarch.rpm files in the repo.
Add the repo in the spin kickstart files so that you're loading packages both from Fedora and from your repo. Also add:
-generic-release -generic-logos -fedora-release -fedora-logos +dowdlelinux-release +dowdlelinux-logos
Then build your spin and it should just work without any ugly stuff in the %post section. Also, this will give you the opportunity to change the Plymouth theme, desktop program menu button and so on.
