Interesting because specifying the X settings my way with resolution 1024x768 and vesa driver works perfectly. I wonder why setting a lower resolution in the kickstart config would make that difference? Is it an anaconda specific problem?

xconfig --driver "vesa" --videoram 65472 --resolution 800x600 --depth 16 --startxonboot

Choose a lower resolution.
