Can anybody tell me if connecting to internet in a public hotspot is safer with Linux (Fedora) than with Windows? Or is it all the same? Thanks Greetings Andrew

On the contrary, it is only marginally safer, for your machine, and that's it. Be very careful of what you do! Your information is still at risk!!!

It depends on the manner in which information is being transferred.
In terms of the machine itself, its OS and your files, Linux is probably significantly safer because of the system permission and file ownership restrictions. For web-based information where common malware and trojan tools rely on browser security and things like javascript implementations then there is a much more level playing field.
If you're accessing your own data then using a VPN is much safer, if you're accessing 'cloud' services then even with TLS/SSL it's not guaranteed to be safer on Linux.
HTH.
