Sounds like about the time the kernel "update" with the
ALSA downgrade got
out. Please file a bug against kernel and complain loudly about the
regression (which is what the people did for the ALSA upgrade in the
previous kernel upgrade and why it got reverted). (That shows how reverting
is rarely a good idea.)
The problem solved itself so in my case it isn't to do with the latest kernel.
I followed the steps listed at
even though I didn't
think it was really going to help and initially, it didn't.
But after two reboots, sound decided to work again. It didn't on the first,
worked on the second.
<Shrug> If we had 26 hours in the day, I'd spend some time trying to figure
out exactly what it was that fixed the problem.... :-)
