I just did a clean re-install on my hp laptop. I had been running f18 + kde-4.10.
Now I'm running f18 with stock kde. When I bring up powermon, there's a slider for brightness. I can move it, but nothing happens. Screen is too dim.
I logged into gnome, and with it's powermonitor, I was able to change brightness.
Any ideas? Maybe I should install kde-4.10?

Also, I created a new test user. He also cannot control screen brightness, confirming it's not due to any old settings in my own account.

Before I reinstalled, I had been using kdm, and I believe it worked fine. After reinstalling, I had the default gdm, and it didn't work. Then I switch to kdm, and now it's working again. I didn't try to repeat to confirm it, but I'm pretty sure that's it.
