I don't know if this is an issue with kmod drivers but I know that if you try
to manually install NVidia drivers the installer balks because of the kernel
module that is triggered on by runlevel 5. And is released when switching to
runlevel 3
You might have to switch to runlevel 3 and uninstall the kmod driver as
outlined in THING 3 in my previous post.
Essentially you would have to log into a console as root
make sure that you switch to runlevel 3
rpm -e --nodeps "The name of the kmod driver"
yum install "The name of the kmod driver"
reboot
