I am using Gnome since yesterday.
I couldn't stand it any longer. 48 hours of Gnome was all I could bear. I
decided to get back to KDE and see if I couldn't use cnetworkmanager to start
the network. It turned out that it wasn't installed, so the command line
offered to install it for me... and it did!!!
I don't understand it:
either I have had internet connectivity in KDE all along, despite
knetworkmanager showing networking as disabled; or
gnome turned it on and it remained on when I logged into KDE.
I have two hands again ;-)
