I haven't used konqueror as a file manager since kde-3.5 about 2 years ago, so I am
not certain how it works for that purpose nowadays. I am also not sure if this could
be your problem with windows opening full size: are you sure you have not set your
desktop workspace form factor to netbook and/or are you using the air-netbook style?
I had a problem a while back with the testing versions of kde-4.4 on my laptop where
I was unable to get rid of that damned netbook crap when I had turned it on to see
what it does (fortunately resolved now).
When you rename a file...
I don't have the renaming problem. When I select a file to rename, the portion before
the '.' is highlighted and I can click anywhere within to type and then I
backspace
or delete to remove the portions of the old filename. Pressing delete wipes out the
highlighted part and I can just start typing a new name. When I want to change the
suffix after the '.', I have to move the cursor over; it doesn't get
highlighted.
